Monitors: Asus TUF VG259QM vs. Dell Alienware AW2521HF

Hello guys! 

 

Which monitor would you choose between these two: 

Asus TUF VG259QM vs. Dell Alienware AW2521HF?

 

Both have flat, IPS, 24” panels, 1ms response time, 240Hz refresh rate (Asus can be overclocked to 280Hz). 

 

Did any of you have experience with these monitors?

Yeah, I'd just get whichever's cheaper.

Have you considered 1440p 144Hz though? Unless you absolutely need 240Hz for some reason, of course.

You mean a 27” monitor? 

Because I like it smaller. 

24.5” is ideal for me. 

(My current monitor is just 18.5”)

Hm, to be fair 24" 144Hz 1440p IPS panels are pretty scarce.

I've been using an AW2521HF for a couple of months now.

Very good colour reproduction, very good response time, and the panel itself looks quite good, since it's got fairly slim bezels.

Sharpness isn't its strong suit, but I'm most likely saying that because I've got it right next to my 24" 1440p panel, which is a pretty stark difference. If that wasn't the case or I hadn't used 1440p prior, I wouldn't be complaining about this.

 

It's a solid monitor overall.

Prior to our discussion, I had no idea that a 24” monitor can have a higher resolution than 1920x1080. 

 

The monitor that I want to buy now is this one: 

 

Dell 24 Ultra HD 4K Monitor - P2415Q (23.8”, 16:9, 3840x2160 @60Hz, 10-bit panel, 185.12 PPI, 300cd/m2, Colour support 1.07 billion).

Wait.. you went all the way from 1080p 240Hz to 4K 60Hz? What is your use case, exactly?

Also, I think 1440p is a better fit for 24", at 4K you'll probably want to turn up the scaling, which isn't particularly great in Windows 10.

My use case is generally music production, web browsing and media... 

 

Yes, I’ll probably use it at 2560x1440 @60Hz resolution.

Yeah, some details will be too small in 4K, but at 2560x1440 @60Hz I should have very clear looking images on my screen.

Yeah. 

Basically, when I started looking for a monitor, I didn’t really knew what to look at. 

I just wanted to replace my old 18.5” DVI-D connection monitor with one that will have good contrast, clarity, brightness and colours. 

But I thought that those parameters are being influenced by response time and refresh rate too. 

Later I found out that cd/m2, high resolutions and PPI density deliver those sharp images.

UPDATE: 

I, finally, bought the Dell P2415Q UHD 4K monitor. 

It’s everything I ever wanted from a monitor: incredible image quality, sharpness, brightness, and beautiful colours, completed by an exceptional monitor stand. 

 

I recommend this one!
