Best graphics card sub $250 for workstation/photo and video editing

Traveller18

Hi All,

Looking for suggestions on a sub $250 graphics card new or used that will work well for large photo set editing and video editing on a 1080p system and that could possibly work for 4K editing in a pinch.

A question i also have is although 5500xt 4g vs 8g doesn’t seem to affect gaming performance would it give better performance on workstation tasks.

Thanks!

What programs are you using?

Probably go nvidia for cuda support, and a 1660 super seems to be the best option here.

Currently use photoshop, Lightroom and premiere and occasionally autocad.  Would be interested in trying out Davinci resolve at some point.

Also $250 is max budget would prefer to spend $220 or less

Whats the rest of the system?

You can probably get away with something like a 1660 or 1650 super if you want to save. 1080p editing doesn't need much these days, and photoshop and lightroom don't use much gpu

3700x or 3800x/xt

32 gig ram

and a x570 motherboard. Haven’t settled on a specific board yet

You might consider used, if you do ask for original purchase info (probably don't want a card purchased more than a year or so ago)

2060 has gone on sale for $250 before, it'll probably happen more frequently now.

Video editing is going to be largely dependent on your CPU... To the point where any extra funds should go there. A Ryzen 9 3950x with a GTX 750 ti is still going to beat a Ryzen 3 3300x with an RTX 2070.

For adobe products you may want a Nvidia gpu but 5500xt should be fine.

You don't need $250 cards, a 1650 is enough.

8GB is desirable as newer upcoming games may use more vram.

What used cards would you recommend? I am definitely considering that but am not sure how to compare across generations .

Would all depend on what you can find local to you.

If it's strictly business as others said you don't need top of the line, upgrading cpu to 3900x would be more better.
