CPU/MB or Graphics Card Upgrade

Hello all,

My currect PC is:

Intel i5 7600k 3.8GHz oc'ed to 4.6GHz and working fine.

Asus Z270H Motherboard

32 GB DDR4 21333MHz Ram

GeForce RTX2070 8GB

I am planning a small upgrade, but I do not have huge budget.

So my option is to upgrade to RTX3070 or to Ryzen 7 3700X with new MB.

I do not need high fps, I have 60Hz monitor and will not change it anytime soon.

What are your thoughts?

Definetly go for a ryzen upgrade. More worth it to jump to a new socket with more future upgrades.

EDIT: saw that ram speed now.. Maybe try and overclock it? if you do actually go for a ryzen platform. Ryzen loves fast ram.

Yeah ram speed is my concern as well when it comes to Ryzen upgrade.

I tried to overclock it to 2666MHz but PC wouldn't even start and had to reset BIOS ;)

I might be able to upgrade RAM later down the line but not anytime soon.

Ryzen 4000 yeah that is true. Thought I am not upgrading often, last time was 4 years ago.

nothing esports related, mainly story driven, RPG's, strategies.

hmm... you can monitor you individual core and GPU usage to determine which is limiting you and upgrade that

but on 1440p, i would expect it to be a mixed bag, and also based on what graphical setting you use and game title.

could be CPU limited, could be GPU limited.

but i would suggest a CPU upgrade would probably do you better if your frametime isnt flat

here's an example of how to monitor (with msi afterburner and rivatuner)

Spoiler

using GPU1 in that picture, and you can see it's not capped at 95%+, so it normally means im CPU limited

also notice the frametime graph at the bottom, it can be spiky if you're lacking CPU threads to process your games.
