Unless you are buying a gaming laptop, always put more money into your CPU than your GPU, unless you have the money for a higher-end GPU.  That flagship CPU you just bought will likely be good enough for at least one GPU upgrade cycle.

Example: The i7-6700k was considered "overkill" when my dad and I paired it with a GTX 1070.  Now, he's likely to pair it with an RTX 2070 SUPER, which the i5-6600k simply would not keep up with 100% of the way.  That i7 was worth it!

I'm going to build of of this and add something else.

I don't care what CPU, GPU, storage, or RAM you buy. Buy a motherboard with the highest-end currently available socket you can. Sockets like Intel X299, X99, X79, ect or AMD threadripper are all good choices. Then buy the cheapest CPU for that platform possible. Then 6+ years down the line, there will be a huge glut of available CPUs for your prosumer platform and few boards to put them in... except yours. To this day there are still people running X79 boards and are perfectly happy with their platform. That was a CPU socket released almost 9 years ago, and X58 is just starting to die out. It's the reason I am still running a Lenovo Thinkstation D30, which was released all the way back in 2013. I can upgrade this machine to 24 cores if I want to.

High-end motherboards actually do hold their value quite well. Even today, real X79 motherboard still go for $150-200, which is very close to the price most people bought the systems for. Your high-end motherboard and PSU are one of the few things in a DIY PC that will go down very little in value over time.

This strategy only makes sense for people who use their base platform for 5+ years. On top of that you don't need to spend $700 on a board. I just said buy the motherboard with the highest end available socket you can. Back in 2014 I spent $200 on an Asrock X99 board and that would work with this strategy. Sadly it's not 2014 anymore and good threadripper boards are ~$400 minimum.

Using this strategy, you can potentially get up to 10 years out of a base platform.

This does pose another question. Why do most X299 boards start at roughly the $200 level and threadripper boards $400+?

Because x299 is still considered consumer? Idk, it’s still not handling as many cores or lanes as threadripper.

I never heard that as a reason. I know accidents can happen, but not every month. More like 1 time in a year?

(Based on anecdotal evidence on living with 3 woman)

ofc accidents dont happen every month

but when it does, you'll have a good time cleaning a cloth based car seat, even once every 5 years is a pain, and it's more like a permanent stain

I actually quite like our leather car seats. They are comfy, easy to clean, and seem to degrade less quickly. I've also never had my bum cooked when I got into the car? Even when our airconditioning didn't work, the seats were just fine.

I tend to upset people when I tell them that, in my opinion, burying people in graveyards is a huge waste of time, space, money and nutrients. It'd be far more beneficial for everyone (except the people who make money off of graveyard-burials) to use human corpses for e.g. making fertilizer. To take the idea a step further, it shouldn't be optional to let the dead be harvested for organs and used for medical research, either -- any leftovers could still be used for fertilizer or whatever, as well.

Or we could do what some Cultures do and eat our dead... Quite a few did this with warriors killed in Battle who fought well out of respect.

Personally, I don't mind the basic idea, but I am concerned about the taste/quality of any food made out of typical humans; we tend to stuff all sorts of horribly nasty stuff down our gobs, there are plenty of people who keep poisoning themselves with cigarettes and the likes, then there are fat, lazy slobs like myself and so on -- I don't see any way of making anything actually edible out of most people and which is why I view fertilizer as a much more practical approach.

there's a good scientific reason not to cannibalize (morals be damned in my book)

I've read somewhere that it can cause parasites to spread easily, since it's the same species.

I think it's a case where a brain parasite spread quickly when a tribe ate human brains, or something. Could've been a movie?

edit: nope it's real

but harvesting organs and what not is something I've been thinking since long ago.

Well to be fair the primitive tribes who done this often consume a wider diet then the SAD or Western Diet. They were also greatly more active then people in the West. And of course didn't smoke at all.

Given that people who smoke tend to reek like it, they would be just as likely to throw that in the River or Ocean and let the fish eat them alive.
