Razer Blackwidow 2014

LinusTech

I 'like' the part where Razer stated that other standard mech switch (basically Cherry) is good for 20 million keystrokes, but theirs is good for 60 million keystrokes. Aren't Cherry switches good for 50 million keystrokes? Isn't this Razer marketing at its 'best'.....that is, to misinform?

In the video, Linus said Cherry claims "50 million".

It's their BS marketing, just scroll down on this link and see what they claim....

Sure, they can always claim that they were referring to cheap Chinese Cherry knockoffs (or perhaps ALPS), but you and I know that the 'standard' mechanical switches are made by Cherry. That's why I hate Razer, it's all about the marketing and BS....

"The result is close to zero tolerance and an increase in durability of each switch to up to 60 million keystrokes as compared to 50 million on standard mechanical switches so you can count on perfectly executed commands, every time."

Either they corrected the page before I accessed it

PS: Did you just imply Alps are "cheap" in comparison to Cherrys?

It's not my fault if you don't bother to read what I'd said, did I not say to scroll down? If you can't do that simple thing, guess I'll have to spoon feed it to you...

Capture_zps0afcd550.jpg

It's at the bottom of the page I'd linked....  I don't mean to sound rude, but I DO feel offended when someone implies that I'm somehow handicapped when they don't bother to actually to go through the whole page.....I DID say to 'scroll down', did I not? Yet I did not assume that you lack the ability to read, or that your comprehension skill is somewhat lacking, or worse still, imply that you are somehow handicapped.....can you say the same? And how did you arrive at the conclusion that I'm saying ALPS are cheap? They are cheaper in general, but Matias uses ALPS and they aren't cheap. I've yet to try a Matias but I've heard they are good....

Someone over at GH with eagle eyes spotted the Kailh symbol just below the Razer symbol/name on the switch.....so, my bet is, Razer is going to sell it at the same price as the BWU 2013, but making better profit due to using inferior and cheaper switch.

Also, the only place on that page that mentions "20 Million" is the "clicky" chart. The actual text, the "silent" chart, and Linus all say 50 Million.

Linus said 50 million, that's what all of us know, that Cherry MX is good for 50 million keystrokes, I'm not disagreeing with you about this.

And with regards to ALPS being cheap, they are in general except for those by Matias. Just look at the old Ducky Zero DK1087 keyboards with ALPS, they are, in general, cheaper than the Cherry MX versions. BTW, they are relatively cheap compared to Cherry MX, but I'd rather have a Ducky Zero DK1087 Black/Green ALPS than that Kailh switch Razer....

BTW, aren't you in the least bit curious as to their claim that 'clicky' standard mech switch has 20 million keystrokes....isn't this misleading somewhat? Yes, the silent Orange tab indicates 50 million for standard mech switch, but why the discrepancy with the clicky one?

And please, don't ever imply someone has a handicap in the forums, it serves to piss off the other party, there is such a thing as net etiquette you know....

I don't know about you, but 'handicapped' is still not a term I'd feel comfortable to use to describe others that I know absolutely nothing of, strikes me as you being arrogant and quite presumptuous. Regardless, I've put you on my ignore list, kindly return the favor....

I would gain nothing from "ignoring" you and I would lose any information you offer in the future. "Ignoring" someone puts me at a disadvantage and reduces the emount of information I have available. You don't seem totally inept.

Got a Razer BWU blue glaring backlit keys with shiny plastic version...

My review of the keyboard: great keyboard, types well, could be faster, pain in the ass to get used to the macro keys when working on it and when it gets dirty for cleaning it really is a pain to clean, but nothing I've found not sticking it in the shower and using the washing brush on it doesn't cure, let it dry out for 3 days and it's good to go again (I don't recommend anyone else doing this but it works for me - it's been in the shower for a wash now a good 4 or 5 times). Only pain is that rear left grip pad has gone missing making the thing rotate about it's top right traction pad as a pivot point.

I am a gamer but not that much of a gamer, however I do love the macro keys and even bought the naga old version for macroing batches of code snippets to. It's awesome, every program I work in has the same shortcuts for inserting code snippets in whatever language I am working in at the time and really speeds up things. However I threw the naga away, I think it was due to stuttering which gave me bad nerves and I don't have big hands but that mouse was sooo small! Will stick with my Razer Black Widow Ultimate.

But what I really want to know is:

1. This keyboard 2014 version vs Corsair k95

and

2. When's the Corsair RGB mechanical coming out?

;)

Really dissapointed with Razer. How it can be priced the same if switch costs less than half the price. Greedy bastards!

Really wouldn't have a problem if price was significantly lower.

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/

  • 3 weeks later...

Unbelievable. 1-2 weeks ago the blackwidow 2014 tournament edition was priced at S$139.90.

They have since increased the price by a whole S$10.00 for no reason whatsoever. One would think that the prices would go down since they are outsourcing the key switches to a cheaper manufacturer.

Always go Ducky over Razer. Razero is a "Gaming" brand. If you're looking for a keyboard, get a Ducky. If you're looking for a "gaming" device with letters, get Razer, but be prepared to pay for the Razer Logo and the word "gaming" on the box.
