Will it be worth upgrading from a 2080 Ti to a 3080?

That’s a good point. I think on AC: Odyssey that’s the case but when I run RE:3 my CPU is only ~80% bound whereas GPU is 99-100% locked.

then you'll see less of an improvement overall

some game benefits, some game dont

it's up to you to weight the difference vs price

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Where did you see these tests?

Here are some good info on video, benchmarks included.

Oh wow I didn’t see this video. I saw one where Jay compared a 3080 to a 3070 and 3060 or something like that but not against 2000 series GPUs.

Check it out and also, consider that the 1440p setting you play in will go good with this series. Lot of players mentioning 1080 for it, but that´s a bit pushing it. A 30XX card should as i understand it be for at least 1440p, but we shall learn more with more tests and days gone by ahead.

I haven’t been able to get my hands on a 3080 yet but now I’m wondering if the difference between the 3080 and 2080 Ti is worth paying to upgrade?

I’m currently running a 1440p/144hz monitor and I really prefer a more cinematic experience with graphics at maximum and relatively high FPS too.

On my 2080 Ti I seem to have trouble hitting that 144 FPS on a lot of more demanding games like AC: Odyssey and RE:3 and RDR2 with max settings enabled.

Does anyone know where I can find benchmark comparisons @ 1440p? Or has anyone seen benchmark comparisons for major games and now approximately the FPS difference?

Thanks!

it's like 10% at 1080p (cpu bottlenecks) 20% at 1440p 30% for 4k for simplicity's sake. I'd say it's somewhat efficient for 2080 ti owners to just upgrade to a 3080, but wait for the bugs (pcb and binning) and gimps  (more vram) to go away if u can wait.

If you're not hitting peak refresh with current max settings I'd just dial down AA by a multiplier and call it a day, the 3080 is a beast, but not really worth maybe taking a loss or breaking even and then waiting for a card to come in stock for months (they're having some stability issues).

the main things thatll determine my choice in card will be amd's release and how everything fares in cyberpunk. i also play at 1440p 144hz and my 980ti works pretty well, though i play a lot of indie, esports, and older games. i had a good deal on a 2080 super but i dont expect it to do particularly well for max rtx settings even with dlss 2.0. the 3070 has the potential to be the best card of this gen; 2nd gen rtx hardware, perfect for more common gaming resolutions and probably fine for more cinematic gaming at 4k, aibs should work out these capacitor problems in time, and with the lower power out of the box they may overclock better than the big boy cards. will be very interesting to see how everything unfolds

The question is still same, only difference is that release has happened. Its same if you were to ask for new build and something changed, like budget or some new deal giving you extra options. The question is same, parameters just change.

Oh ok thanks! Sorry I swear I didn’t mean to spam I just thought the only way to see my old posts was to manually sort through the hundreds of posts since then. I didn’t know there was a link to see them.

That's why its good to be able to navigate to it yourself, its only 2 or 3 clicks. Not much more difficult than finding where to post a new thread.

At the same time, I hope you see at some point that asking for whether something is "worth it" is pointless since only you know how much something is worth it for you. Is "20~30% faster" worth the expenditure? only you can know. Even if it was more expensive and slower, some people must have the latest product at all times (ego monster) and for them owning a 30-series may still be "worth it" as it is the latest, even if it was worse.
