LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

Is it possible for me to set up remote access/monitoring for clients on different networks? If so, how would I set that up?

Same as local networks...except external IP addresses.  You'll probably have to open your firewall on the remote network to the traffic as well.

I second this!

Badges need restructuring. Maybe leave these badges on profiles for those who acquired them and reuse same ones but just raise the numbers of each one. Therefore old folders will not be screwed over and new ones do not get to jump from no badge to last badge "that easily" (in under 6 months in some cases). LOOKING AT YOU @rodarkone;).

ahahah .. I think the logic is .. fold 1 month with 100 GPU's not, 100 month with 1 GPU  ... also I am not "new" in the folding game ... the fact that I decided to fold here with this account has nothing to do with my other folding@home accounts .. that can get the same status/badge :D easily :)

@GOTSpectrum - oh .. I think I lost the crown today :)  due to the hiccups in the last 3 day

Yes, but you will need to port-forward the remote system on the router at the remote location and you will want to limit which external IP address can connect to it.

I think, although I don't know 100% as it was some time ago that originally it was up in the air on wat the point value should be, but between talking to members and looking at the user table (there were only around 5-10 people who actually has one billion points or more) 2.5 was considered but there was only 2 members with that value or higher without many looing like they would hit it in the near-term. Which going of the fact that we are only at 26 people with over 1 billion as of now, I feel the right decision was made.

Just as an interesting point, if it was 2.5 then there would only be 5 people who qualify for the badge as of now, which I feel is a little too exclusive and would feel unobtainable for many folders.

then it would be a more exclusive club!  we could get the fancy couches and butlers with wicked awsome cocktails and have fancy music playing in the background.  Seriously there needs to be a higher badge level or 2.  i hate to say it but i agree with @Den-Fi

When my roommate is idle and running, and I am running, we have a total combined output power of about 3.7 million PPD. He just has to be plugged in and properly idling and not sleeping.

Well, I guess I don't have to worry about that one getting a WU for a while.  Normally those cores put out over 30k PPD.

The estimate doesn't look wrong based on each snapshot being about 10 minutes for each % complete, either.

Interesting, looks like even though it is multi-core, that project is only using a single core.  Doubt it is supposed to, but the project description on the folding board has:

This one of the few initial simulations with the A8 core so it is likely some bugs could be present! Your feedback will be specially helpfull.
https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=36223

Not a member over there to report it to them, just looking at the project add info.

Are you not running babysitter ?

Most of my systems only run folding on expected spare core time, with clients in the paused state (after finish) a bunch while doing other work.  So, nope.

I would have thought that babysitter would still work as all it does is pause/unpause the slot. I would think that didn't effect anything esle but I'll take your word for it not working.

I was under the impression that if it saw no work happening, it did that.  In my case, there's often no work that should be happening, with paused slots when other tasks will be demanding, so if it tried to pause and unpause, it would start it during the time I don't want it to.  I suppose I could probably load and unload the babysitter script as a service, but I generally just smack a button in FAHControl from a different system.

No it pauses and un-pauses slots that are stuck waiting on Work Server Assignment. You might want to load up the script and give it a try.  The install instructions are listed at the top of the script just open it in notepad and follow them it's easy and quick to install. If it works great if it doesn't work you are no worse off.
