i watched a video buy Austin where his mate Ken waited in line in Micro Centre and there was 200 in the Q and they all got one.

Interesting, wonder if all where Nvidia's or if some (maybe most) where partner boards.

 

Also I noticed they where able to pay via tap for it Tho that can be done threw split purchases.

yeah I'm surprised you can pay that much on contactless (that's what we call it in the UK) our max is £45(due to COVID) usually £30

a lot of jurisdictions have expanded the contactless payment limits during the pandemic

We only have 150/250 depending last I checked, maybe AMEX has theirs higher, which is why I found it odd.

Actually the older it is the better.  If you want to follow through on this idea you would find something before about 1970.  Old fridges and freezers cooled on brute force and didn't have near as good of insulation.  In the name of efficiency over the years the motors have gotten smaller and the insulation better. 

 

Doing a quick search I found from a Minnesota power company says the average 20cuft freezer uses 350 watts of power.  There are going to be some inefficiencies so lets keep it really simple and say it can cool 300 watts of power.   If you then have a GPU that generates 250 watts of power you might think you are great.   For a while you would be but where it will bite you is duty cycle.  The freezer motors are not meant to run 24/7.  Because manufactures figure on a freezer the lid is going to be closed 99% of the time, they don't have motors with a large duty cycle.  They assume it will only run most of the time to cool the small items you put in and what is lost through the insulation and when the lid is open.  Running above the motors duty cycle isn't going to immediately kill it, you are just shortening the life. 

 

If you could get your hands on an old commercial cooling unit that is designed for high duty cycle because of having to both cool large volumes of items and having the cooling door open a lot, that would work.  

 

When doing folding, just cool with room temperature air.  Cooling to sub room temperatures can be done but it takes industrial solutions, they are not cheap and they are very power hungry.   Your money would be better spent buying more folding rigs.   Like you this is my last post on the subject.

Update: moved the 1660ti to my work PC so it can take over folding while im waiting for GPU availability.

 

Had a long and annoying RMA fight with ASUS where they tried not to honor warranty.  Ended up winning and it looks like new ROG strix 2080ti is on the way sometime next week

Sooo I'm not going to be keeping the 1070ti and 2070 super running together.  Don't really think the 520w psu will survive much longer. 

The psu temps at too high and raising the 2070 super temps by 10c lol

 

Will keep not running for a few hours then take it out before bed.

I have a reinforcement joining the army tomorrow and maybe more Tuesday and have secured funding for a 3070 or 6800xt...but will likely be post event...if its a 3070 will replace the 2060 if 6800xt will replace my 5700xt and my 5700xt will replace the Rx580
