AMD Radeon RX 5300 Officially Announced

wall03

@wall03

馃槓 I don't get it, if the GPU is still based on the same old RDNA architecture, then there is really nothing about it that is really new. And....1080P gaming? Really? That's a pretty low standard to me. Even for a lower end GPU, 1440P should be the true performance bar, but hell what do I know. And we're STILL waiting on their next line of next gen RDNA 2 GPU's.聽

I clarified it a bit in the edit, AMD have priced their last few launches close to the GPUs they compared to, likely this would be the case here too, that's what I meant to say/imply there. The performance of this GPU should be closer to the 570(when not gimped by the memory configuration), but the 570 is probably going to still be cheaper and not going to have the memory issues.

If they鈥檙e selling a card that is cheaper and faster than another they鈥檙e already selling聽聽they鈥檙e just competing with themselves. Looking at some comparisons it seems the 1650, the 970, and the 570 are all about par. 聽The 570 and the 1650 are running in the 150 range. 聽I might consider putting a srt of $99 on it. 聽Right about 1030 territory but faster.聽

Not a pro, not even very good. 聽I鈥檓 just old and have time currently. 聽Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

if it was like 100-120$ it maybe a decent buy.

I wonder if someone will make a version of it with a single sata or molex connector instead of a pcie 6 pin given it only needs 20-30W from it

a sata power should be able to do 35-55W

The RX 570 is ~$130 new though, and they're dirt cheap in the used market which people looking at a card in this price range do consider. This just looks like a lesser version of the 570. Its only advantage is lower power draw, though it's still not low enough to actually make sense.

Either that or just not have a power connector entirely and ignore the 75W limit on the PCIe connector. It's not like it'd be the first time that AMD does that, lol

pulling 100W from a PCIE connector on an OEM board isn't going to go well. most claim 35-50W limit

Well yeah, I was being ironic. It'd be pretty funny if AMD were to pull another RX 480 on us and people ending up with melted 24-pins again

that is the standard but most OEMs don't put in a big enough PSU so they don't recommend pulling that much

That could go badly. I was looking at an article comparing various power draws and it looks like a 1650 draws closer to 80w and it can get a good bit higher

B550 doesn't have PCIe 4.0 either. Probably cost savings.

I have seen claims that B550聽is supposed to have pcie4 on one pcie slot and one Nvme slot. 聽Those claims say聽It does NOT have pcie4 on the slots below the top slot, and the chipset bridge is pcie3 as well.

The article you linked shows聽total聽system power consumption, not GPU power consumption. Nothing in that article proves that a 1650 draws 80W over the PCIe connector.

Gah. 聽They didn鈥檛 even have the card seperated? It was the wattage of the entire test rig? Well that鈥檚 lame. Kinda low for an entire rig too. 聽And here I thought I found a useful set of graphs. 聽Oh well.聽
