Loss of FPS from I7 to I9

So the issue was software based. After I did a windows cloud restore it made my system come back to life. IDK if it was the version i was using or what but now everything is as it should be!

Currently im runing an ASUS z390E, 16GB Corsiar ram, GTX 1080 GPU and an I9 9900k.

 

I recently switched from an I7 9th gen to the I9 however while playing Battlefield 4 and COD 2019 i have lost a decent amount of FPS. Typically on BF4 id be at 200 FPS on ultra settings. Now with the same settings im at 130-140 FPS. As for COD im showing the same FPS around 130-140. Why have i lost FPS!? Is there any way to recover it? Ive OCd the I9 to 5.1 GhZ as well.

You've overclocked the 9900K to 5.1GHz with what cooling? Have you checked temperatures while gaming?

Not that you would need those fps.... The only major difference between the two cpus is the base clock boost and Hyper Threading. Did you reset the bios after installing the new cpu? You cannot run the same settings as before. Also make sure the oc is actually stable. Your temps might be stable but that may because the cpu dropped clocks to stay below the threshold.

I updated the bios and the Chip-set after install. I also did a new OC for the CPU. when i'm playing i run afterburner to watch usage and everything looks stable. I even reinstalled windows 10 x64 to be safe. I'm running the Max performance power plan (not that it really matters).

 

CPU temps while playing BF4 are low 60s.

yeah its really odd that you lost frames cuz going from i7 to i9 is pretty expensive and you wouldnt want to lose 70-80 frames in doing so, did you like try to clean off the cooler's thermal paste and the cpu's thermal paste? try doing some stress tests and see if the clock speeds drop while doing those tests.

Ill play and switch programs to the ASUS OC suite and it'll show me what its currently at which is usually 4.9 - 5.0~ish. My CPU load while playing never really maxes out while playing either.

Use hwinfo64. When you right click on any of the sensors you can display a graph.

Im guessing that youre asking if the issue is isolated to BF4?

 

No, Ive seen a drop in both BF4 and COD 2019. Thats all ive been playing at the moment so i cannot comment on other games.

So, while using the AIDA64 benchmark my system crashed due to temps spiking to almost 90c. i returned bios to "Optimized Defaults" and this is what the ASUS OC Suite is showing. I've also added the Report from the benchmark. Any idea where there's an issue, if there is one?

So, while using the AIDA64 benchmark my system crashed due to temps spiking to almost 90c. i returned bios to "Optimized Defaults" and this is what the ASUS OC Suite is showing. I've also added the Report from the benchmark. Any idea where there's an issue, if there is one?

Almost 90 during a stress test is not unreasonable and shouldn't crash. Try the DDU and reinstall the GPU drivers.

It shouldn’t max out, that’s normal. I don’t think there are any games really out there that can fully saturate 16 threads.

 

I’d suggest you wipe your BIOS via CMOS and put back your i7, run a repeatable benchmark and then swap in the i9 and do the same. No overclocking, no tweaking. Compare the results and get back to us. I have a feeling something got changed along the way or maybe you’re remembering past performance incorrectly. Doing what I outlined will give you a definitive answer as to whether or not something is wrong with your new chip.

Maybe windows needs to be re-installed just like when you swap a mobo?

I suggest moving the user folders directories (documents etc) to a seperate drive, so you there unaffected and immediately available after the reinstall. I do this with programs too but they're not in the registry anymore that way sadly.
