i3 2120 CPU reaches 80c on full load

Hi, I changed my thermal paste today and run a cinebench test after that. I came to notice that my CPU temp reaches max of 81c and the average temp is 77c on full load. Is it bad my heatsink and fan is pretty old is that can be the problem ? I have already run the test a couple of weeks back and the max temp is was getting was 77 is it something I did ? I seated the fan properly and even slightly pulled it to make sure it is intact and it surely is. Should I  replace the heatsink ?

My spec:

i3-2120 CPU

Gigabyte H61M-DS2 (rev 5.0)

Corsair CX550
8 gb Ram.

1 TB HDD.

sounds a bit high for a dual core, are you using stock cooler?

Considering it's a cinebench run and the tin under that is probably not the best anymore.

No not really.

are you sure you put enough thermal paste and applied it properly?  if yes, then i recommended you buying an atfermarket cooler, there are some cheap ones who do the job really well

Yes I am using a stock cooler. Check this image isn't that enough ? https://pasteboard.co/JmtjZD5.jpg Which one would you suggest for an after market cooler?

Sandy Bridge has soldered IHS...

Seems like the problem is the thermal paste between the cooler and the IHS.

I have a couple of Sandy Bridge chips including the 2120 and 2100.

I think your thermal past itself is bad, what thermal paste are you using?

you probably didn't put enough, i recommend watching some LTT videos regarding it.

Also, get a aftermarket cooler if you can. If you are from India then i can suggest you some.

Yes I am from India. Will surely look into some videos.

That's the reason it doesn't spread well, and i doubt it's thermal conductivity performance...

Buy something good like Arctic Silver 5,Noctua NT-H1,Arctic MX-2,Arctic MX-4 etc

most aftermarket coolers come with either pre-applied thermal paste or some high end ones with a tube of it so i guess that won't be an issue.

This is probably the best cooler you can get under that budget, used it with 2nd and 3rd gen i5 and did the job pretty well.

My brother also using it with his i3 6100 system, should be more than enough for dual cores.

Comes pre-applied with decent quality thermal paste as well.

Do I have to wipe of the one I just applied when I buy this one ? I just have to place the sink on top right ?

yeah, that doesn't look good. Some really cheap quality one.

I recommend this : https://www.amazon.in/Silicone-Compounds-Compound-Chipsets-Graphics/dp/B07VDTTDHR

yes, you must do that otherwise there would heat transfer issue due to mix up of old and new paste

or should I buy the arctic mx and skip buying a new cooler ?

no, not worth the price. Doesn't even make that much difference compared to normal thermal paste.

It would be a big waste of money.

So should I go with https://www.amazon.in/Silicone-Compounds-Compound-Chipsets-Graphics/dp/B07VDTTDHR and https://www.amazon.in/Deepcool-Alta7-Cooler-1156-Socket/dp/B006KZO8IY. Is there any better cooler this cooler doesn't look very promising, so much negative reviews. Thermal compund is fine only the cooler I am worried with.

you should get the thermal paste first, if that doesn't fix your issue even after applying it properly then you should consider getting new cpu cooler. Stock cooler should be enough for dual cores.

Ok, shall I fix this one ? https://www.amazon.in/Silicone-Compounds-Compound-Chipsets-Graphics/dp/B07VDTTDHR/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=thermal+paste&qid=1597494538&sr=8-6 . Any other suggestion?

also look into this one as the seller is amazon fulfilled unlike the river fox one so it should be easy for returns and replacement, i am hoping i am not too late because i avoided mentioning this before as it has lots of negative reviews but those are mainly for 10gm one which you won't buy anyway and my brother got 30g one few weeks back and it's decent.

https://www.amazon.in/UPVsales-Thermal-Grease-Compound-Chipset/dp/B07QZS7R44

I already placed the order should I cancel that ?

i am not sure, look up and decide what's best for you. I still think river fox would be a better choice.

Sorry am not sure if we had miscommunication this is the one I ordered https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07VDTTDHR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . Isn't this one recommended ?

i think they are not much different by looking at the price, quantity and even by the look of tubes so i guess it doesn't matter much which one you get as it's same quality and rating is exactly the same too (4.1/5).

So shall I go on with the riverfox one ? It got pretty decent reviews.
