Xiaomi makes first mass produced transparent TV

During its 10-year-anniversary event, Xiaomi revealed the world’s first mass-produced transparent TV, the Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition.

Building on its minimalist design and flagship configurations, the monumental 55” 5.7mm ultra-thin display features an edge-to-edge transparent self-luminous design. The TV looks to suspend images in the air and when turned off stands as just a transparent piece of glass.

Reinventing the way TVs are traditionally designed, the Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition houses all of its processing units in its base stand. The transparent OLED panel features a 150000:1 static contrast ratio and an infinite dynamic contrast ratio, offering extra rich blacks and unmatched brightness. Leveraging its DCI-P3 93% color spectrum support, the 10-bit panel displays 1.07 billion color combination which is far beyond what the human eye can perceive. Additionally, the 120Hz refresh rate and 120Hz MEMC technology ensure a 1ms fast response rate that provides a low latency smoother and clearer motion representation.

Looks cool and you can probably do some cool stuff with it like having it act like a window. A little too pricey for me and I don't really have a use for it but I can see some interesting possibilities from an interior design perspective.

That looks interesting and there is definitely quite a few uses for it - Maybe more of a business showcase scenario though early on as always.

 

Although considering most formats, especially traditional, don't really focus on the idea of transparent background so would make most of this a waste in terms of viewing aspects, but again, for the fewer cases it'd be great where it can apply it.

Looks cool and you can probably do some cool stuff with it like having it act like a window. A little too pricey for me and I don't really have a use for it but I can see some interesting possibilities from an interior design perspective. 

They do this now with windows a little, sort of.  They’re kinda of like 1 pixel TVs where the single pixel is used to obscure the window. They’re designed for bathrooms and stuff.  Quite expensive as windows go. 

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

It's a great design piece. Couldn't imagine it really being used as a TV though.

I think it would be useful if it were attached to an armature that could hide it away. Of course I'm talking about millionaire houses, but say you had one of these in your kitchen and it just came out from the counter or something. Maybe you could install it directly as a countertop. It could also be useful outdoors because it would just be a window and wouldn't look weird or add a lot of negative space like a regular tv..

I love it. This could revolutionise how we  set out our homes if you think of it... cos at the moment most people have their TVs in a cabinet or against walls etc. But if you had for instance a larger living room or an open plan apartment, then you could have the TV in the middle of the living space, with the other end of the living space being your home office, or whatever, and could still see what the kids are watching or whatever.

I think it brings more possibilities basically, you're not limited by the TV being a black picture that you hang on the walls any longer... assuming you can extend the power/aerial/media connections to it.

1080p? where did you see that info?  if this isn't 4k then my answer has changed to hell no!

I mean I don't expect to be able to game at 120Hz 4k (don't think there's any games that would anyway is there?), but if the 4k panel could be put in 1080/1440 and 120Hz then that'd be cool.
