Monitor going dark while playing

dexxterrr

I have an issue with my second monitor shutting off and turning itself back on when I drag steam or discord to it during gaming. Any help?

-I've tried deleting my drivers and reinstalling them

-messing around with MSI AB a bit

-replugging cables

-refitting the GPU

the only thing that seems to work is if I unplug my second monitor. Also, there is no "No Signal" message it just goes dark for a few seconds and I hear the windows noise when a device like a USB or something is connected.

Also, this issue is most common with higher end games.

seeing as my monitor is old i was suspecting it was due to it overheating and shutting down but im not sure.

my specs:

ryzen 3 1200

gtx 1050 ti

asrock ab350m pro4

16 gb ddr4 ram

corsair cx450 450w

OS: windows 10 pro 64 bit

Given that the issue is resolved when you take the second monitor out of the equation, I'd blame the monitor. It might be the system's fault, though. I don't think you've run up against your power supply's power budget, but sometimes, strange things can just happen, seeminly inexplicably, especially when a heavy load is put on the system.

So would my only option bo to get a new monitor?

I do have a hdmi to vga adapter connected to it. Could that have anything to do with it?

Turns out that there was something wrong with my main monitors HDMI cable as swapping has made the problem disappear.  Im not sure if its just a temporary fix though
