"New" Build

Gastarbeiter

So I upgraded my Motherboard, RAM and CPU today.

I kept the same PSU, drives, case and, for now the same GPU (will upgrade when 30series and RDNA 2 are out).

The system is

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X

Motherboard: MSI X570 Tomahawk

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 CL16

GPU: AMD Vega 56

PSU: XFX 750Watt semi modular 80+ Bronze

Case : Lian Li Lancool One digital

M.2: AData 250GB nvme

SSD: Crucial 250GB sata3

HDD: WD Green 2TB

Monitor 1 : AOC Agon 32" 1440p 144Hz

Monitor 2 : Acer 27" 1080p 144Hz

And it went from this:

What were the old specs?

I know. I went from no RGB to RGB almost everything in no time.

The old system had the same case, GPU and PSU.

Motherboard was an ASUS Z170-A, CPU a core i7-6700k and RAM was 16 GB or Corsair vengeance 2666Mhz

How much of an improvement have you going to the Ryzen setup?

In Games no improvement. I knew that already.

However in other workloads I will be doing (engineering stuff) there are huge gains by doubling the amount of cores I have available.

How...quaint. (I'm giving you a hard time, I run a dual CPU Xeon workstation with more cores/threads than I can use. 20c/40t)

What engineering stuff takes advantage of all those threads?

FloEFD (CFD)

ANSYS Fluent (CFD)

ANSYS Mechanical (FEA)

Creo Simulate (FEA)

I could use all the cores you have! Set up a VM to use one of the XEONs run Fluent on one and FloEFD on the other :)
