Motorola Strikes Back

Mopy

Motorola has returned in a way blackberry never could; since the aqusition by lenovo Motorola has started making a profit which is odd for a company which has been collecting dust for oh so many years, there main market is the low end however there making suprisingly good phones for there price; for example they are selling a phone with an 6"+ OLED screen for £270, however there is a very clear business tactic, the low end proccessers, the 675 snapdragon for example is verty commen accross there range.

These lower end value phones put the iPhone SE to shame since most of them have 4gb of RAM and 128gb of storage with bigger more advanced screen and most of them also come with fast chargers. There is one disadvatage... the updates, motorola have been slow and hesitant to release updates to the next versions of android and this is most likly why they are so cheap however there could be an alternative to help make android updates cheaper for all manufacters; google could directly admister android updates for a small one time fee meaning that each smart phone maker wouldn't have to have there own large development teams.

They are also investing in the high end, semi-successfuly, with there edge lineup but I think the lack of gartineed software support is scaring people off, but unlike other chinese manufactors they allow rooting of phones, they even have an artical encoraging it but at lost of warenty.

Yeah I've been generally happy with my Motorola phone and have been able to recommend them to other people too.

Only thing I would say is a shame, is the battery in a specific phone of theirs swelling up for two people who I recommended the phone too (both out of warranty - one about three months outside of warranty, the other 6 months out of warranty). I recommended this phone to these people, but also recommended it to two others at the time, whose phones have not (yet??) suffered the same fate.

They were happy with the phone before, so went for a Moto phone again.

I'm still waiting phones with real keyboards return

I know, there's the Blackberry Key but it comes with a qwerty and the keys look very small, need one with the classic layout, like this:

Samsung folder 2 has the exact same key layout, but it is a folding phone, and it is running quite an old version of Android. They made a version in 2019 too, but no way to import it to anywhere.

I have used Moto phones before and after the Lenovo  buyout, and my favourite for specs for the time / price was the Moto G2. The newer ones are good too, for a while they were kinda bad value, but they have improved a lot.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Going to get a Motorola Moto G8 Power soon which has a 5,000mAh battery and sells for $220.

I have the G Power (North American variant). Good all-around device. I wouldn't have minded a slightly snappier chipset, or 6GB of RAM, but for the price I can't complain with it's performance. I don't game on it; just the geek in my likes bigger, better faster. ;) Easily lasts 2-3 days of basic usage. I've gone from sunup-to-sundown watching YT videos & still had charge left over.
In broad daylight outside, the screen could be a bit brighter, but it's still visible.

One quirk I did notice recently: I have a glass screen protector on the front. The rare time I used the front-facing camera, it flashes the entire screen white to act as a flash. With the screen protector on, it refracts the light back towards the camera & creates a halo effect around the outside of the picture. So be mindful if you also use a protector & take selfies.

So far I seem to be about a month behind in security updates. Sitting on July 1 update which came through in the last week or so.

Haha, what? Their phones are in no way more powerful than the iPhone SE. It has a better camera, significantly better SoC...iOs doesn't need a lot of RAM, as it's better optimized, and you can get the same storage. The only advantage is the larger screen, but that comes down more to personal preference than anything.

For a £250 pound phone, I would argue the camera is amazing for the price, the SE has a tiny battery and the extra storage comes a higher cost. An SE with 128gb of storage comes at the cost of £469, with no fast charged. The IOS doesn't have allot of ram remark is far from the truth, yes it is better optimised, but its more of a case of no IOS phone has more than 4GB of RAM.

The SE is just bad value for money with Google offering cheaper options. And my phone being over 50% cheaper with a bigger screen, bigger battery, better camera, fast charger in the box, more RAM.

Your phone 100% does not have a better camera.

Not everyone wants a bigger screen, so that's a moot point.

Faster charger isn't really a concern when the phone has a smaller battery.

Again, the OS doesn't need the RAM, so why put it in the phone? Just for a larger number on a spec sheet? That'd make no sense at all.

I don’t think Motorola is putting the SE to shame... The SE has the fastest processor on the market, NFC, wireless charging, much better camera, etc.

Google also can’t just update other manufacturer’s phones. Phone makers have their own custom apps, extensions, OS alterations and so on. Google isn’t going to reverse engineer all of that and release updates.
