Intel $5,000 Extreme Tech Upgrade - Anthony

Thanks to Intel for sponsoring this series!

Anthony has been having trouble staying active since moving to BC, and especially since recent events force many of us to stay home - So when Intel fronted $5,000 to upgrade his home setup, he had a very specific concept in mind...

I'm disappointed.

You're right. My new main gaming PC is definitely not a Core i7 6700K, and it's not the VR rig, either...

Are they just throwing money at the problem?

Please, for the love of all things, don't ban me for asking this, and perhaps there's a better place for me to ask this, so if that's the case please point me in that direction, but:

Yall didn't wear a mask for the cameraman.
Yall did wear a mask when there were two people on the screen.

In the scenes I'm referring to where you didn't wear a mask, you were in a private persons home. In the scenes where you did, you were in a business. Then they were taken off in the video while at the business at some point, simply by moving to opposite ends of the table. I realized that I don't really know what Canada's mask rules are

What are the local/countrywide mask rules that came into play during the filming of the video?

So @GabenJr I've got a question after this video, and if you don't want to answer, its understandable but as someone who is a furry I'm asking this with love. After seeing all the fox and red panda plushies and what not (Which I love by the way) are you a furry?

I have been trying out VR as a way to get more exercise.  I have settled on FitXR (formerly BoxVR) as my go to exercise program.  If you haven't tried it out, give it a shot.  It is fun and makes exercise seem a lot more fun.  Also, good choice on the TV and I absolutely loved the bookshelf of vintage gaming!

Same (in regards to VR exercise), actually in VR right now for my daily exercise.

plushies in general sure, but specifically a large number fox or wolf plushies is a sign of someone being a furry. I'm really curious now if he is

You guys need to do more with that Apple II and iMac G3. Maybe even find yourself a G4 while you're at it. Could make for a pretty sweet build if you can turn it into a touch screen AIO.

What are the local/countrywide mask rules that came into play during the filming of the video?

David (camera operator) was wearing a mask, and we stayed between 1-2m in distance when talking to him without a mask on. Zoom lens can make that a bit difficult to ascertain when looking at just the footage.

As we didn't have much choice but to be in close quarters, during the shoot, we had several guidelines we adhered to while at my place:

  • No non-LMG staff would be present
  • All LMG staff would be masked unless speaking directly to the camera with no one else nearby
  • All LMG staff would, where possible, maintain 1-2m of distance, especially if someone unmasks; If not possible masks on
    • The only exception to this that occurred was when Linus was seated next to me for the outro, and I kept my mask on
  • All involved would sanitize their hands upon arrival and before leaving

It's been a few weeks since filming now.

The BC CDC link posted above contains general info that we as a company are taking into consideration. We have several rules in place already (sanitize hands first-thing when entering the building, masks on when closing to1-2m of another person, etc).

We have plans to refurbish the G3. Not sure if we're going to gut it and sleeper it, or if we're going to just restore it. Got it from Brian the Electrician, it does boot but the HDD sounds like it's struggling and the CRT is a little fuzzy (probably just needs a focus adjustment but IIRC it's also out of alignment). Definitely needs a cleaning... From the branding melted(!) into the side of the plastic, it looks like it was originally the property of a local school.

Oh man I still remember when our school had almost every single colour imaginable. Like the pink, tangerine, indigo, sage, lime, strawberry, and grape colours. The memories.

Turn it into a ARM based mac perhaps when those start shipping? 😉  Make the world's first Apple Silicon powered iMac G3.

I think the consensus is that for an adult, the worst that can happen is eye strain, which is a temporary condition. For children, it may be detrimental to development before a certain age (as the 3DS' 3D effect was found to be, I believe before age 7).
