Anyone recommend any studio headphones?

TechyWinkie

Currently I'm using a low-budget pair of studio headphones (Samson SR850) and I'm still wondering if there's anything better than this. Not that I'm complaining about it, it sounds good and it captures raw sound pretty nicely. There's no added bass or any fancy additions to the headphones which I really like. I wanna ask you guys if there's any kind of studio headphones that are better in terms of sound quality and build quality? Also how comfortable it is because I use it everyday for long periods of time. Would love to know some recommendations!

What's is your budget?

My favorite for this application would probably be DT 880 600ohm better build quality very flat very detailed very analytical nice and comfy.

The dt770 250 ohm for closed back. Also detailed bass is very linear but digs deep into the subbass. Also pretty comfy.

Other headphones are the ath m40x, requires a pad change to get comfy but nice neutral sound. HD 600 super neutral sounding headphone. Ath r70x also super neutral but has a better bass response and detail retention than the 600.

My father is in the music buisnes, and he uses Audio-technica  Wired M50x. OMG, i've got to use them for a car trip, and they feel amazing, though they do cost a lot (150usd. Like a 3600.) They have even base and high, and they basically have the exact same sound as in real life. If you have 150 to spend  on headphones, thease are th best bet. https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/ath-m50x?color=5794

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Between the two recommendations thus far, I'd go for the DT880 is more analytical, more true to life sound than the M50X which has something of a bass boost and narrow soundstage....but then, to each his own. I would suggest that TS, at the very least, try out these headphones first.

DT880 is more analytical but still colours a bit. I'd look at something like Sony MDR7506 if you want a pair of headphones specifically designed for mastering and pride neutrality above all else.

Don't get me wrong the DT880s are fantastic. I'd pick them over the Sony's every day for actual listening enjoyment, and twice on Sundays so it really does depend on your use case.

If money isn't an issue, the Sony MDR-M1ST (buying directly from Japan through ebay). They sound pretty much exactly the same on any DAC (which is a damn impressive feat), have a very clear track seperation (being able to hear each instrument without it mushing together), and are one of, if not the most, accurate pair of headphones I have ever heard. They have pretty thin pads, but I don't find them uncomfortable one bit, but I have a pretty weird head, so take my comfort opinions with salt. As for build quality, they are built solidly, with good flex in the headband, and the cups rotate 90 degrees in one direction, and do not fold.

Don't get the M50X, they are treble murder, and that's coming from a treblehead (super high end focused), and have no sound stage. The M50X also have a large amount of bass, but because the mids are so lacking, the M1ST, which are not bass focused at all, even have better bass then these. If you are even thinking about them, I would recommend the M40X with thick replacement pads instead.
