I have coil whine on my gpu and was wondering what ur guys experiences were with it and if you've ever had it? If you have do u just deal with it or did u find it too annoying so u rma/returned it?

Last about 5 graphics cards of  mine have made the coil whine noise.  GTX 1070, Vega64.

... but I'm no expert

Most manufacturers don't accept coil whine as an RMA as it technically isn't a manufacturing error.

|| CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x @ 4.2GHz 1.4v || CPU Cooling: Wraith Prism (Upgrade to 212 Black Pending) || Motherboard: B450 Tomahawk MAX || RAM: C-DIE LPX @ 3266MHz 15-17-17-20 1.45v slightly tuned subs || Storage1x MX500 500GB 1x WD Blue 1TB 5400RPM || GPU: Gaming OC 5700XT @ 2010 Core // 1800 Mem || Case: H510 Matte Black || PSU: RM550x || Monitors: 2x KG281K || Keyboard: Tecknet Wired Membrane || Mouse: Tecknet Wired Mouse || Headphones: Platinum Wireless || Mic: Inbuilt (Upgrade to Yeti Nano Pending) || Console: PS4 Pro 1TB || Phone: iPhone X || Earphones: AirPods Pro || Watch: Apple Watch Series 2

My words of advice:

Don't buy Cherry Browns.

Don't play Overwatch. I've hate the game yet I play it every day.

Wireless > Lighter Mice

Silence > Temps for Coolers

Get a good PSU

pretty sure you can't rma a card for coil whine, that's the case with most brands.

i do, in fact it's normal, and can't be avoided, nothing wrong with the card it's just a noise that occurs when the coil moves essentially.

I used to have a PowerColor R9 285 that had pretty bad coilwhine under load, but that had a pretty under-powered cooler, so you couldn't really hear it over the fans.

Recently I haven't though.

Yeah at the start it just scared me because I'd never heard that noise before coming from a pc so it just put me on edge

The more quiet I make my machine (fan curves, watercooling, etc) the more noticeable that the coil whine becomes.

One more question as I'm not very good with this technical stuff but if they wanted to could this be fixed with a better quality coil or is it just inevitable?

You can't sadly. Nothing is really to fix it's perfectly normal.

Even with a better pcb with better coil there will still he coil whine. You can try undervolting but again. It's perfectly normal.

I had a ROG RX580 with coil whine, returned it and bought a Nitro RX580, it has coil whine too. Changed the PSU from G3 550W to SP11 650W, coil whine is still there. Put a ferrite bead on the PCIe power cables cuz JonnyGuru gave that advice, it got worse.

https://www.howtogeek.com/297166/what-is-coil-whine-and-can-i-get-rid-of-it-on-my-pc/

It's a physical property of a coil. The current causes a magnetic field, which causes the wires to move/vibrate. In some cases the vibration is in a range audible to humans. It's not a question of quality. You can try to dampen the noise by preventing the coil from vibrating, but that could have undesired side effects if you're not careful.

Out of curiosity what are the ways that u can dampen the noise of the coils?

I just started hearing a whine on my desktop lately.  😬

I was very hot here last week. 🥵

It is very annoying when I'm gaming.

At first I thought it was my graphics card but then I remembered that the graphics card in that machine is a low profile card that has no fan. 🤔 😄

I've never had coil whine before even though I've had a bunch of different cards and fans in that desktop over the years.

I thought it might be a sign that what ever fan is doing it would soon fail?  🗯️
