One more question as I'm not very good with this technical stuff but if they wanted to could this be fixed with a better quality coil or is it just inevitable? The current causes a magnetic field, which causes the wires to move/vibrate. In some cases the vibration is in a range audible to humans. It's not a question of quality. You can try to dampen the noise by preventing the coil from vibrating, but that could have undesired side effects if you're not careful. Posted August 3, 2020 I just started hearing a whine on my desktop lately. I was very hot here last week. It is very annoying when I'm gaming. At first I thought it was my graphics card but then I remembered that the graphics card in that machine is a low profile card that has no fan. I've never had coil whine before even though I've had a bunch of different cards and fans in that desktop over the years. I thought it might be a sign that what ever fan is doing it would soon fail?
