is it Recommended to Remove the Noctua NH D15 before shipping the PC with my Car ?

Sarah242
Go to solution Solved by Cyracus,

70% is fine, just don't dip the cpu in it then put in mobo immediately, for cleaning paste it works perfectly fine. As for the cooler, as long as you have the case on its side and it can't slide around you should be ok, If you can't secure it so it can't slide remove cooler and gpu... If transporting with gpu in, have the gpu oriented to the car so that acceleration and deceleration forces aren't sressing the slot (so pcie slot parallel to the side of your car)

I want to Ship a PC I build for a friend with my Car

can that big cooler damage the motherboard if I don't remove it ?

if it's a short drive, you don't need to worry if you just lay the PC on its side.

Shipping via a postal service, always remove tall objects like the cooler and GPU.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

there should be a motherboard cutout at the back of the motherboard in most cases

question is if it's big enough to take the backplate out, since leaving it in will scratch the back of the motherboard and that's not good

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

how far are you going to be driving with the PC? are you driving it yourself, with enough trunk space?

remove it if possible, and even remove the gpu if it's a heavy one and put it on it's side if possible, the d15 is heavy and tall so yea remove it if possible.

I stuff the case with packing material that I get in Amazon boxes.

So far no incidents.

The trips are around 200 miles on a turnpike.

Take the cooler and possibly the GPU out if your going 100mi. the D15 is super easy to take in and out. Clean the TIM off before transporting using rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Bring some fresh TIM with to re-install the Cooler with upon arrival.

You might get away with leaving it in and putting it on its side if there are no potholes on the way but I wouldn't risk it.

Good luck!

If you place it on the side (of the motherboard) all should be perfectly fine.

I wouldn't bother. If you wedge it in the back seat, it won't move, and you won't have any issues. If you're carrying people, just make sure the tower can't move.

If you're getting forces hard enough to dislodge the cooler during travel in a vehicle, with the case secured, then you're going to the ER anyway and your PC is the least of your worries.

I wouldn't bother. Having traveled many, many times with towers, it's unnecessary with proper loading.
