New build abruptly crashes after working fine for a bit

Working on a new build for a friend and we got Windows 10 fully installed and everything seemed fine....until the system crashed. The system will start up and run for up to 10ish minutes max (sometimes much shorter) and then abruptly crash. Part of the crash is that the fans on the GPU will ramp up to what seems like full speed after the system has crashed. The system will remain in this weird powered on state with the fans on the GPU spinning at high seed but nothing showing on screen until we shut the power off.

 

I checked the CPU temps in HW Monitor and those all seem largely normal (40-50ish Celsius). GPU temps seem normal as well. All graphics drivers are up to date.

Tried reseating CPU cooler and graphics card to no avail. Any ideas on how to fix this issue or what the cause might be?

Do you have XMP enabled or anything overclocked? Try clearing the CMOS and seeing if it still crashes after that.

Yes I did turn on XMP. Good thinking. I'll reset CMOS now and report back

If reset fixes it try lower MHz to 3000 or 2933.

Nothing overclocked. Removed XMP and it still crashed

Still no dice. I think it's the GPU after all because it crashed very fast once I opened Heaven

Not guaranteed can also be the power supply if it fail to deliver enough power...

Just making sure, have you updated your BIOS to the most recent build?

 

I've had a similar problem then just doh'ed and realized I didn't update the bios.

I actually tried and the system crashed in the middle of doing so. I'm going to take my GPU out of my system and put it in his and see if I can at least get that much done

Had this problem with a 9700k build straight out of the box

Not oc, no xmp nothing.

A fresh reinstall of windows fixed it

What thermal take PSU? The smart series suck though.

Clear the cmos. 

Try with one stick at a time. 

Set the power limit for the GPU to something lower like 70%.

It's a good unit. Doubt it's the problem though..
