Do you think an i7-8700K will bottleneck a 3080 Ti? (1440p)

Do you think a Core i7-8700K will bottleneck a GeForce 3080 Ti in near-future AAA games (such as Cyberpunk 2077 (without ray tracing)) at 1440p?

 

I am asking, because I have a 144 Hz display and my 8700K/2080 combination doesn't quite reach a constant 144 fps in current AAA games (such as PUBG, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, RAGE 2), so I decided to go Ti for the next set of GPUs to push the numbers up.

We don't know yet, but the 8700K is still a very capable gaming CPU so i would imagine it will hold its own pretty well, especially in GPU limited games

We don't know the performance of the 3080Ti and we don't know the requirements of Cyberpunk, so...

 

It'll probably be fine. The 8700K is still a more than capable chip, and playing at 1440p will ease the load on the CPU a bit anyway.

If I have to, I'll upgrade to the i7-10700K but only if necessary, as I'd prefer to wait for the i7-11700K in 2021.

Doubtful it's a top gaming CPU.

 

Give us the performance specs of the 3080Ti and we can compare...

Yes.

Even with some 2080 tis you will bottleneck.

With a non A 2080 ti GPU you would be power limited before you bottlenecked. But with an A 2080 ti GPU you would bottleneck before you were power limited at 1440p and below in most games.  As a high end 2080 ti user it is my biggest issue.

This will get worse with a 3080 ti.

depends on what games and refresh rate, there are already games that's bottleneck by a 9900k, so no doubt there will be bottlenecks, i got 100% cpu usage playing Detroit at 60fps when the action scenes are zoomed in, and any of the ubisoft games doesnt get to 144hz, but it's a can of worms, are there cpu bottlenecks? yes, is it worth upgrading from a 8700k? probably not, though with zen 3 u never know.

 

As for cyberpunk there will be cpu bottleneck.
