we all know that the i5 and GTX 750Ti yields the highest framerate

and the 760k with GTX 750ti is the most value for money

what if we dump the FX 6 core CPU and R7 265 combo?

pretty much mid weights in terms of CPU power with GPU power

sadly newegg are out of R7 265 stocks thanks to coin mining

Effects of RAM with an i7 4770k and 660ti:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWgzA2C61z4

Tek Syndicate RAM tests with A10 6800k:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGlnnMNuEHk

I'm sure there are tests of the effect of RAM speed on Kavari chips.

Sorry, didn't quite address the dual graphics question

RAM speed made a big difference with the 6800k.  Higher spec ram might suit some builds as an interim upgrade or when space is very limited.

I suspect the $/fps value will still benefit most from a GPU.

I know it makes a difference when the APU is on its own; the key question is how much it affects an APU crossfired with 1+ GPUs and how it would affect the value ratings. We'll just say a 7850k crossfired with R7 250 and 2400+ frequency RAM.

It's also going to be interesting tosee what happens with APUs when we eventually migrate to DDR4 RAM.

I really wish there were some haswell i3s in those tests

Being non-specific, they wouldn't be too great. Their price is far beyond the Athlon 700s and they don't perform much better (if at all).

I was curious myself but the reality of the situation is that the i3 CPUs are just as bad as Kaveri, if not worse. I'd say the AMD equivalent is the 7700k. It has roughly less than half the iGPU performance of the 7850k but costs so damn much. You're paying like $70 for graphics cores that perform worse than an R7 240 (much worse, I believe).

Edit: Didn't really say anything as straightforwardly as I should've. i3 Haswell/Ivy-E are not terrible. It's just that their price is friggin' bad for budget gaming and are beaten the hell out of in dollar to performance as your budget expands. The FX-6300 should still be better than any i3, and is cheaper.

Maybe I missed this but what about Dual graphics + Mantle? Would that push performance even further? As it enough to make sense?

I probably should've worded my comment better. What I'm interested to see is how i3 Haswell (or maybe even Ivy Bridge) performs with a discrete graphics card

Just wanted to say I thought the second video was really nicely put together - very informative, entertaining (especially the sponsor at the end :D) and I think that was the best segment that Luke has done so far :) Keep it up guys ;)

kaveri is perfect for me as I dont game much. However it is nice to know that if I ever change my mind in can drop in a 260x and not bottleneck it. How does the 7700 compare to the 7850?

Really enjoyed the video and found the value analysis very informative. Value is so often overlooked.

i chose the 760k + r7 260x over the 750 ti for $10 more because of the 2 free games

i would personaly go with a 860k + 270X then.

Or with the current price drops FX6300 + 270X.

Since the 270x is the same price as a GTX750Ti.
