Warzone not smooth

Hi, I am looking to see if there is any fix for warzone to run smoother. I get mostly 100+ FPS and dips to around 80. It feels very choppy.

My Specs:

i7 6700k stock 4.0 ghz

GTX 1080

16 GB RAM 3600MHZ

installed to HDD but will upgrade to an SSD later on

Acer G sync monitor

HDD is the biggest issue imho

second would be cores/threads as Warzone chews all 16 to around 60-80% on my PC's.

 

I get zero stutters and maintain over 100 FPS with my current summer OC on my Ryzen 7 1700 with R9 Fury X combo.  Warzone on an SSD however.

 

EDIT - Ill explain.  Online game, lots of moving parts, already CPU intensive.  Anytime a sprite comes up, and its not loaded on the RAM/VRAM it has to start the CPU request, to then spool up and find said sprite on the HDD, put it in the RAM/VRAM then display it on your monitor.  HDD and CPU (CPU already probably close to tapping out)

EDIT - Ill explain.  Online game, lots of moving parts, already CPU intensive.  Anytime a sprite comes up, and its not loaded on the RAM/VRAM it has to start the CPU request, to then spool up and find said sprite on the HDD, put it in the RAM/VRAM then display it on your monitor.  HDD and CPU (CPU already probably close to tapping out)

So probably 4 cores with 8 threads is causing the problem?

HDD is the first problem.  If you put this on an SSD (game) then the time allocated by the HDD (spinning drive (HDD) vs non moving parts info grab (SSD) to grab that sprite will reduce down to the CPU being the next potential problem (that I see, with your rig, and my experience with warzone across 3 rigs)

 

I honestly don't think the CPU will actually "be a bottleneck" at that point.

 

Remember, this has to do with Online gaming.  Data comes in over the internet saying "Hey that sprite just showed up on your screen (explosion, gunshots, whatever) and if its not already cached in the RAM (something new, I.E. a rocket goes off and hasn't yet so it hasn't retrieved those sprites yet and cached them).  Then the CPU receives that data, checks ram, ram doesn't have it, requests data from HDD - which is slow as dirt in comparison to a SSD - which has to literally spool up spin around, and then push the data up to the RAM/VRAM.

 

Eliminate the spinning drive and I bet your rig will run beautifully truth be told.

Yep most likely. Check CPU/GPU usage in game to verify.

Shoud I get an M.2 NVME SSD or and Samsung 860 qvo v-nand?

There are a ton of options - if your board supports M.2 interface with NVMe capabilities and you want to do that you can.  For gaming you will notice no difference between an NVMe drive and a SATA III SSD (note, if you go NVMe your M.2 has to support NVMe, M.2 is the slot, NVMe is the communication protocol as best I can explain it, whereas SATA III (communication protocol) M.2 SSD have a different keyout altogether so a NVMe drive wont fit in a M.2 SATA III slot unless its keyed to fit), and personally I go for the most affordable option, for example today arrived my $43 512gb Team Group SATA III M.2 to add as another game drive on Ryzen Rig 1, since it has open M.2 slot to be populated (and was at the time 9 cents a gb which was cheapest at this size drive on the market, which is why I went with it)

The MOBO I have is an ASUS Maximus VIII Hero, it has support for a m.2 SSD but do not if it is for NVME or SATA III

Per the manual it supports PCIe x4 (NVMe) or SATA III
