What I have

MB:      Maximus III Gene

GPU:    NVIDIA GeForce 465

CPU:     Intel I7 860 @ 2.8Ghz (8cpu)

Ram:     4 sticks of 2gb DDR3

I am looking to upgrade a little so that I can at least play modern games. I know the gpu is what’s holding me back here. But as a beginner builder I have no idea where to start and what my MB and CPu can even handle as far as comparability etc.

so for starters where and what needs to be upgraded for me to be able to play modern games if I have a budget of around 500$?

I appreciate the input. With my current parts. Is the MB or PSU saves le. I recognize that some of these parts are going on 10 years.
