Ryzen now or wait for 4000?

Was wondering if it would be good to upgrade to a ryzen now, or is the new 4000 series right around the corner. 6700k just can't handle recent BR games at 144hz.

 

Thoughts?

Since you already have a capable cpu, I would wait for ryzen 4000 to launch before upgrading.

Not the GPU, its Cpu usage.

It isn't capable for high refresh low setting competitive play, I get 100% cpu usage which causes stuttering.

Also depends what resolution they're playing at which from the sounds of it they're playing at 1080p if their CPU usage is hitting 100% and the GPU isn't.

 

Either way I'd wait. Have a feeling the 4000 chips are going to introduce a good bump in performance over the 3000 chips for a similar price to what they're selling the 3000 chips at (give or take). All speculation obviously.

Yeah trying to push 144hz at 1080 with a 1070. The CPU spikes and top aout at 100% easily in new games like HYPERSCAPE. So looking to lower overall cpu usage.

 

Since b450 supports the 4000 series might buy a mobo with a 3800x and sell when the 4000 releases.

Do you know what the GPU usage spikes up to during those times? Useful to know.

 

Could do although the B550 boards may be worth looking at with their updated power deliveries and PCIe 4.0 compatibility (if you're interested) at a lower price compared to X570 boards. If I were you I'd still wait because it's not that long until the Ryzen 4000 chips come out but if you feel like you really need to change your CPU I'd go with a 3600 as a placeholder. A 3700X makes no sense, much less a 3800X.

Depending on your budget, you could buy now with a Zen3 (4000) compatible motherboard then sell it and upgrade later when prices calm down well after release.

 

Really though, with a 6700k you're probably more than fine to just wait it out.

The current ryzen is in shortage due to covid. It is also overpriced. I'd wait for the new ryzen series
