You update it from within the BIOS.

He said updating on a B550.  But yes, the B350 will not support 4000 series CPUs.

The way I read this, you will ditch the Ryzen 7 1700 and B350F motherboard and will get a Ryzen 4000 CPU + B550 board, correct?

If you are getting a B550 board at the Ryzen 4000 launch, it likely won't be updated to support Ryzen 4000. But maybe it will be. If it's not, you can do this:

- Contact AMD RMA and request a CPU to loan to update the BIOS

- Contact the store you're buying from to update the BIOS (they sometimes do it for a small fee/free)

- Install your Ryzen 7 1700 into the B550 board and update it like that.

Pretty sure the B550 boards don't support 1st gen Ryzen either.

C R A P, you're right. Seems like B550 only supports Ryzen 3000 (currently), excluding the 3200G and 3400G.

Looks like you would need to contact AMD for the loaner CPU (assuming they will have a loaner CPU for Ryzen 3000..) or wait for a board that will specifically support Ryzen 4000 (like what we had this gen with MSI's MAX boards).

Just now, dfsgsfa said:

Not sure.

Currently, with people needing to update B450/X470 boards, they are sending out Athlon 200GE CPU's to update the BIOS. But currently, B550 motherboard only support Ryzen 3000 CPU's (excluding the 3200G and 3400G), meaning cheapest CPU they can send out to people would be the Ryzen 3 3100.

There is a good chance that B550/X570 boards manufactured 2-3 months before the Ryzen 4000 launch will be compatible with the Ryzen 4000 CPU's. But when buying such a motherboard, you of course do not know how long the motherboard had been sitting on the store shelves beforehand.

I will have to assume they are incorporate such an image on the motherboard packaging again (but with Ryzen 4000 of course).

If you are waiting for Ryzen 4000, then just buy a B650/X670 at the same time ?

what?

they haven't released a '320' board for the last 2 generations, so why would they suddenly just decide to do one now?

Ryzen 1xxx had B350 and X370, Ryzen 2xxx had B450 and X470, and Ryzen 3xxx has B550 and X570. So what makes you think that Ryzen 4xxx won't have it's own chipset ?
