OC my card questions

Hi, Ive been playing with the Radeon software with my Rx5700 XT. Its the Sapphire Nitro + SE version that's rated at a core clock of 1845 and a boost of 2035Mhz. With 3D mark at nominal settings I get a result of 10,196. When I use automatic GPU over clock I get 10,386, but the Junction temp hits around 105C and the fans max out. When I overclock the VRAM I get a result of 10,263 but the junction temp sits around 90c and the fans are not maxing out. My question is it it safe to have a junction temp over 100c or not?

Reference card runs 110C junction so it's not unsafe, it's just discomforting

Monitor the GPU boost clock.

How high does it ever boost to?

Dropping the GPU Core Voltage from 1200mV, down to even like 1150mV or 1100mV should drop the Junction Temperature noticeable (e.g. 10*C ~ 15*C).

Sapphire max's out the GPU Voltage out of the factory, so depending on your GPU frequency, 1200mV is excessive.

 

I have my GPU Core increased to 2080 MHz (the card boosts up to ~2050 MHz at this setting), and I'm using ~1100mV.

Maximum Junction Temperature, with a custom fan curve, does not exceed 85*C ~ 90*C.

 

AMD says 105*C ~ 110*C is fine, but ideally, you DON'T want to run it at that high constantly.

100*C or below is the more realistic / nominal range.

'Tech Jesus' at Gamers' Nexus did some analysis on this a while back...
