Can airflow or temps be limited with a top mounted AIO?

I'm looking at getting the Corsair H115i RGB PRO XT AIO and mounting it in the top of the Phanteks P600s. There's a section of the top panel that can be removed for more airflow but I wanted to ask that if I don't remove it will there still be enough airflow through the small gaps and throughout the case in general for it to not affect the cpu temps that much? I don't mind a little noise or a few degrees increase from my system. If the temps get too out of hand (anything over about 70°C for an extended period of time) I'm happy to run the pump/ fans at a higher speed and I'll also have custom fan curves/ profiles set based on cpu temp. I have all fan slots (6) in the case populated with 140mm fans so there's plenty of airflow in the case.

Also would it be advisable to run the aio outside of the system for 24 hours before actually installing it to check for leaks etc? This'll be my first experience with liquid cooling and I don't have another system to use if all goes bad.
