Opinions on the Corsair HX620W?

looking at upstaging my GPU

from the Corsair CM450W

as my current CPU needs a GPU upgrade as well, someone is selling the 620W at 60$ CAD in my local area

That PSU is over 10 years old.

You're building a computer, not an antique car.  Definitely not worth 60 CAD. Not even worth 6 CAD.

What is a "CM450"?  There's no such Corsair model.

Or the Corsair VS650W for 100$

which might be a bit more than what I need currently, but for 40$ extra would it be worth it?

Pretty sure that is a 10+ year old PSU, maybe wait for others input as well. But if it is indeed that old I would definitely pass.

What is the planned upgrade and what is your current PSU (since "CM" is not a Corsair series).

Ok.  Even a CX450M is better than a 10 year old HX620.

Before you decide to increase your wattage, you need to know what parts you're using to figure out if you even need more wattage.

Completely reasonable,

I’ve been looking into newer generation Nvidia cards, I’m not running a top of the line PC by any means.

current specs

i5 3570k @ base clock for now

16gb RAM

EVGA 660ti

2.5” 500GB SSD

ASRock extreme4 mobo

my GPU is failing,

and assuming if I’m going to try and pick up a 4GB DDR5 GPU I figured I’d need to up the wattage from my little 450.

But depending on what card you get, you probably will not.

GTX 1660?  You're fine with your CX450M.

RX 580?  You're fine wit your CX450M.

GTX 1070?  You're fine with your CX450M.

Wow, I didn’t even realize that it would be fine with such a significant upgrade.

there’s an MSI GTX 980 for 250$ in my local area

So, the older cards like that actually use more power than the newer, more efficient cards.  You're probably still fine.

For that much money, you can buy a brand new GTX 1660 with a full warranty that actually outperforms the older 980: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1660/2576vs4038

And the 450 will still be fine to power everything?
