Why are low profile rams more expensive then RGB ram?

All depends on website ram type and country

by low profile, we're talking about 18.3mm tall sticks. Those are exceedingly rare for DDR4, leading to high price.

Like right now, for me, Newegg Canada is selling a kit of 3200MHz 16GB G.skill RGB Trident for 118$, while the "low profile" equivalent Corsair LPX is 122$.

But the normal price for the Trident is closer to 140$.

 

That said, if you truly need super low profile RAM... You might want to choose RAM without a heatspreader. They operate at a higher cas (22 on the cheaper side) than memory with a heatspreader, but it's a sacrifice that might be worth if you really need the space.
