MSI GAMING X TRIO RTX 2080S 3rd fan not spinning

Recommended Posts

Alright so i bought a MSI GAMING X TRIO RTX 2080S a couple months ago and realized my 3rd fan is not spinning which causes like +10c of temperature normally than it should be in stress tests i get about 83c and normal games about 70c max but in rust or RE2 i get about 83c.I have had this problem with a 2060 STRIX but on that one all the fans didnt spin.I do have a GPU Bracket and i have heard stories of them blocking certain fans, but i currently don't have access to the inside of my pc so i cant remove it or do anything special with it.is there something i can do to try and make it spin using software?

Download MSI afterburner and set a constant fan speed of 50% and see if it spins. Also the MSI control software is probably a good bet.

Whenever i set a custom fan speed no matter what % i put it to it automatically goes to 15%.

Seems like a MSI controller problem then.

So what can i do about it?

Do you have the MSI controller thingy installed? You may be able to change some settings in there.

You are probably looking for some sort of RGB control / general management utility, I'm just speaking in general terms here I've never used a MSI GPU.

Alright so i got it to be able to change the fan speed manually.I set it to 70% and the 3rd fan is still not spinning im finding the GPU Bracket probably as the suspect tbh

What do you mean the GPU bracket? Is this a prebuilt in which there is something that is brushing up / touching the fan and preventing it from spinning? If so, just stick a little spacer in there so it doesn't contact the fan blade.

It's not a prebuilt im talking about the gpu brackets that prevent it from sagging. And im expecting that to be the issue since i saw a lot of people have problems with their brackets touching up on their fans

So you installed the bracket yourself or it came with the case? I would think it would be self evident to try and see if there is anything physically blocking the fan from turning, no? Try and spin it with your finger and see if you encounter a bunch of resistance or you can see it hitting something.

I didn't install it myself and it didn't come with the case.Someone i know installed it for me and the 3rd fan actually only ramps up at about 65c-70c so i guess he just didn't benchmark it and didn't see if it hits the fan blade at all.I can't currently go inside my pc at the moment but tomorrow i will bring my pc to someone who deals with pc's because im changing my CPU Cooler to a X53 and im gonna ask him to see if he can do anything to try and make my 3rd fan work

What do you mean? You don't have to take anything to anyone "who deals with PCs", just take off the side panel and use your finger to spin the fan. It's pretty self evident. Also you understand that if you pay him to change the CPU cooler you end up paying him more than the CPU cooler is worth, right? It's time you learned your way around your own machine.

The only reason i do this is since im only 14.And i don't really trust myself to mess with my pc's insides. And i don't really have a screwdriver to take the side panel off right now.Im actually only paying 10 bucks to the guy.Since he's my dad's good friend.Yes i do completely agree with it, that it could be insanely annoying and expensive to bring your pc to someone to for change of parts but not even my dad trusts me messing with my pc's components
