PC upgrade

tlmills82

I'm upgrading my PC and would like to grab the motherboard, CPU and RAM asap.  Now that motherboards are starting to come back in stock it looks like now's the time to pull the trigger.

I know that RAM speed is very important to Ryzen.  Is 3200 fast enough or should I go higher?

3200 or 3600MHz, depending on what's available & your budget.

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

Good parts list. Any reason for b550 over the b450 version?

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

I would wait til the b450 tomahawk max is in stock then. It’s worth it to save $70 that can be used for the gpu or other upgrade.

Reality it's $50 as I have to pay tax for whatever I buy.  And I wonder if a bit of "future proofing" is worth the $50 as well as 4.0.

As far as I know, b550 is no more future proof then b450. Both will be supported by ryzen 4000 but after that, I think they are moving to am5 socket. As for pcie 4.0, you won’t notice any difference in real world use with it.

In that case, it might be worth it to buy b550. I didn’t think the supply shortage was that bad. Would another $50 for other upgrades do much for you?

That's an odd way to put it. Both because I doubt the tax would be $20, and you'd have to pay tax on both...

What I was referring to was that the price listed in that pcpartpicker link included tax.

It says it does, when available; which is never. It doesn't include tax.

Looks like by chance I was able to order the 450 from Best Buy.  We'll see if it actually exists or not.
