How Do I Share locally across network

I have two windows computer in the house and thought there was a way to setup a folder on the network that both computers can acess and transfer files in between. Is that mapping a network drive or setting up share permissions on a specific folder? Does anyone have any info on how to do this?

If you want to use the crappy windows file sharing, first you have to enable file sharing in control panel, then you right click folders on your pc and set the sharing status.

 

Another way is to use filezilla server, then map a network drive using the IP of the filezilla server.

TBH, if the files are small-ish, you'd be better off using dropbox/google sync (or whatever it's called now), that way you have a dropbox folder on each system, that's automatically synced. Atleast then you don't have to turn both systems on in case the file/folder you want is on the other system.

If you have a half decent router, most of them support basic NAS functions by using a USB drive now, so might be worth looking into that... they aren't the best performing, but if it's just for smaller files it should be OK, and you might already have everything you need if your router supports it.

So when I do this the PC asks to enter windows credentials and I am entering my microsoft account email/password, is it something else or do I have to create window credentials?

You need to make an account on the PC you want to access... IIRC it has to be a local account.
