need a budget motherboard for 3300x

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited) · Original PosterOP

Hello all. Hope yall are keeping safe. I am currently in the market for a good budget motherboard for the Ryzen 3 3300x. Also is the 3300x a good choice for my first PC?

EDIT: The motherboard i have in mind is an ASUS TUF B40M Plus Gaming micro atx motherboard. Would this be good. Also would it be compatible?

Solid choice, if it's not too close in price to the 3600. You can get a B450 Tomahawk MAX for around $120.

My budget for the overall build is around 800 bucks give or take. Also what do you mean by features?  I am pretty new to this whole PC building thing

If you don't really know much about the features, you probably won't need them, but with that being said you might learn about the features and find them useful, so almost anything with a B450 chipset will be fine for you, you could even try overclocking if you get one with decent VRM's

AMD Ryzen 3 3200G / Sapphire R9 290X / 16gb (2x8) Kingston ValueRam @ 2666Mhz / Gigabyte A320M-S2H / Kingston A400 120GB M.2 SSD / WD Blue 2.5" 1TB HDD / Cooler Master MWE450 / Aerocool CS-100 / Dell P2210 1680x1050 @ 70Hz (OC)

Some motherboards come with advanced features that basic users don't need. An example of this is a POST code, which is a 2 part 7 segment display that provides detailed diagnogic information. This thing is really useful for extreme overclockers, because they push their systems to the point of crashing and then figure out what the weakest link is with the system.

Just wondering, I saw in your signature that you were gaming with a CRT. Do you mind sending me a pic of your setup? How do you deal with such deep monitors?

If you are using the Ryzen 3300X mainly for gaming, it can perform similarly to the Ryzen 3600, due to how the CPU core modules + CCX are arranged.

A decent B450 board would be plenty, but if you are considering a higher core count Ryzen 3000 series, or Ryzen 4000 series in the future, B550 would be the way to go.

Otherwise...just to name few...

- ASUS B450 TUF Gaming

- MSi B450 Tomahawk / Pro Carbon / Gaming Plus Max

- Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite

There are many choices as you can see, but I will throw in one more. At 85 USD, the Gigabyte Aorus B450 M is fine, if you are close to a Micro Center store you can get 20 bucks off when you buy a CPU with Motherboard.

Well... I guess it once was, the jerk faces, I mean sellers are price gouging everything. Before the Corona shutdown this board was $85 and I now see it not, so you can scratch this motherboard off the list of choices, at least for now. Sad face
