kazam screen recorder help

I think this is a linux only screen recorder, so thats why i put the thread here. do y'all know if it uses cpu or gpu for recording? 1080p is stuttering for some games while recording, but is fine while not.

 

need to know if its just something a gpu upgrade will fix or if i need another new build.

Do you have GPU acceleration libraries installed? I think for NVIDIA, its h264_nvenc. Also note HW accelerated encoding in NVIDIA GPUs in Linux use FFmpeg. and the nvenc_h64 libraries should be integrated with FFmpeg. Try installing FFmpeg in your system

how do i check if theyre installed? i cannot upgrade over driver 418 as this makes my pc undoubtedly worse/unusable by not allowing coolbits to be enabled as enabling it in any way freezes the pc on reboot, and forces the resolution to 720p.

 

i have a second gpu i can put in if theres a way to force it to use that.@Vector0102

type this in a terminal window

sudo apt-get install ffmpeg

it will install it for you if it is not installed. and driver v418 is enough.

was already installed. my gpu runs at pci x4, so there will be no loss, as the 2nd one is same card. can i use the second card as a dedicated encoder?@Vector0102

Have you tried using OBS for linux? its much more versatile and gives more control over the encoding.

obs... was a nightmare. i couldn't even start a recording, and when i did it lagged my old pc more than kazam. as well as made everything blue. i couldn't get it to start again after that. 15 fps 1080p my gpu is okay, 60 kills it.@Vector0102

Linux should prefer HW encoding if available and if all the libraries are installed. Try installing the VA libraries by typing this in the terminal.

sudo apt-get install -y libva-dev

This should fulfill all requirements for HW encoding of H.264

i think it uses that already. just need 30fps more/15% more gpu usage. a 2nd card will be enough and more for when, and if i get a better monitor

Are you still using a P104 Mining Card? As far as I am aware, the mining cards don't support nvenc.

A google search on that to verify brought me to this. https://github.com/keylase/nvidia-patch/issues/247

Which also states that NVIDIA Mining Cards have nvenc locked out.

 

If thats the case, you will have to use your CPU for encoding. Which is what is currently happening.

For encoding using the Intel iGPU you may need https://github.com/intel/media-driver/

 

Also, I would recommend SimpleScreenRecorder over Kazam
