AMD is forcing me to make a very difficult choice…

AMD is launching new Ryzen 5, 7, and 9 processors with Zen 2 cores, but with a twist: They new XT chips are faster than their X counterparts, and the SAME PRICE – Is AMD insane?

Damn im also kind of sad now since I have a 3600 and since it will cost the same price as a 3600x and it cost like £20 more damn, kind of regret not waiting for the xt, but hey ho life goes on

Not really at the same price though. The original non XT parts are still significantly cheaper.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Not really lost much there. You're talking about single digit gains.

They might be with Zen 3 depending on how that goes, but not with these launch really. This looks more like they're just trying to get rid of stock and incidentally the process has matured, so higher clock speeds are more easily obtainable. Nothing too exciting or out of the ordinary.

also why did it take almost 2 minutes for the clocks to stabilize? i've never used blender in any meaningful way, but when you hit render there's no "spool-up" to get the render warmed up. why does it jump all over the place?

The 3800X/XT still doesn't make any sense to me. There's a pretty big price gap between the 3700X and 3800XT. If you want 8C/16T save your money and buy the 3700X and invest the savings in a better CPU cooler/motherboard/sandwiches and overclock it.

My guess would be that it's before the test starts and it's supposed to be showing the behaviour of idle clock speeds and then how the CPU boosts up and then maintains a steady clock speed. At around the 11min mark I would imagine that was supposed to show clock speeds after the test had concluded. 🤷‍♂️

they could've just branded them as (x) cpus and call it a day

they don't have to make it a newish lineup of cpu's

i honestly thought the XT cpus where just a lower end  navi based gpus

so it's really confusing.

That's pretty much how I feel.

A 3800XT would probably still be faster than a 3700X on PBO, but I would also reckon that the difference would be so small, it's not worth pondering over.

Yes exactly! I just snagged a 3700X for $273 and the difference in price (between the 3700X and 3800X/XT) doesn't make any sense. I will instead spend the $100+ difference from 3700X to 3800XT on an AIO, which to me feels a lot more useful!

Alright the 3900X chip benchmarks look totally out of whack. Maybe you guys just got an unfortunately crappy 3900X, as it was doing way worse than even the 3800X. Hardware Unboxed released their video and basically saw 2% improvements from each X => XT version, so it really does seem like a silicon lottery thing. With the retail markdowns in most 3000X series chips, the cost of going up to the 3000XT chips just doesn't seem worth it for the small benefit. Especially if you exclude those crappy 3900X benchmark results.

I have no idea who said it but iirc the goal of the XT-series is to cause a dent in the intel 10th gen and make them look a little bit worse so AMD can be sure to wipe the floor with them when third-gen launches. Tbh, I have no clue wtf that means but maybe this is part of a long-ish term strategy from AMD?

maybe so, but I feel like they just highlighted the fact that the best option/value all along was the discounted base chip (3600 or 3900x).  The "higher binned" chips seem not improved enough to make one buy that instead of the pretty similar performance, low cost, air cooler included chip.  If said person would pay a premium for a chip binned higher to get 1-2% performance upgrade, with no cooler, they probably already bought an intel chip xD

I am smiling happy with the 3900x I got for a hair over 400 :); thats where I would put my money (hard to beat that deal!)
