Question about pricing of the HTC One once the M8 comes out...

Hi guys,

Question: What are the odds of the HTC One dropping in price any time soon? Specifically in line with the M8 coming out? 

I'm just curious because I'm getting a new phone soon and it will probably be the HTC One. I want to know if I should wait or buy it now if the price isn't dropping soon. 

What is the history on the prices of these phones, in relation to new releases? I believe I read that the HTC One was at $500 or so (with contract or something) for a while, then dropped to $350, at least from my carrier. So I'd assume the M8 will be $500 then drop to $350 eventually. 

But I'm not interested in that wait or that phone all that much. Just more so curious about the One. 

Any insight/help is appreciated.

Well pricing is pretty different everywhere but for here at least I think it will retain a decent amount of it's value for a while, since it will still be a pretty high end phone even a year from now. Here in Switzerland the best price you'll get online is like 530 CHF or 600 USD, so I don't really expect it to go under 450-500$ even after the next generation comes out, but yeah, prices are different everywhere.

I haven't really seen phones drop much in price when you're buying at retail levels. Google blows out their Nexus line close to new releases. I think the rest just cease production and wait for the stock to sell out.

I've never seen a phone cost $500 on contract before.

You'll see the on contract prices drop, and that's usually how the clear out remaining inventory.
