Planing to build a new PC.

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Budget (including currency): Between 1000€ and 1600€ (a little bit more will be okay.)

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I will use the PC for gaming, streaming and a bit Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Lightroom).

Other details:

I want to use an Intel CPU and an Nvidia graphics card. I know that AMD CPU's and GPU's are better in some perspectives, but I have so much good experience with Intel and Nvidia.

The PC will be standing on top of my desk. So it will be a bit like a design object so it must have RGB and because I love colorful lights.

Maybe in the future I want upgrade my monitors to 4K displays and 144Hz.

Current PC (around 7 years old):

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz Quad-Core
  • CPU Cooler: Intel stock cooler
  • Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V Pro ATX LGA1155
  • RAM: Corsair XMS 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3-1333 CL9
  • Graphics Card: Gigabyte Radeon RX580 8GB (I must replace it last year because my old card broke (Nvidia GTX 680 Phantom).)
  • Case: Zalman Z11 ATX Mid Tower
  • Power Supply: be quite! DARK POWER PRO 11 850W 80+ Platinum (I want to continue using it.) (I must replace it because my old one broke.)
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit (continue using)
  • SSD: Corsair Force GS 128GB (continue using)
  • HDD: Seagate 2TB (continue using)
  • HDD: Western Digital Blue 2TB (continue using)
  • HDD: Western Digital Red 1TB (continue using)
  • Monitor: Asus VG245H 1920x1080 24" 75Hz (continue using)
  • Monitor: 2x Samsung C27F398F 1920x1080 27" 60Hz (continue using)
  • Keyboard: Corsair STRAFE RGB (continue using)
  • Mouse: Roccat Kone AIMO (continue using)

Planned PC (https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/dgdNhg😞

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.6GHz 8-Core
  • CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X52 Rev 2
  • Motherboard: Asus PRIME Z390-A ATX LGA1151
  • RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4-2400 CL15
  • Graphics Card: Asus GeForce RTX 2070 8GB STRIX Gaming OC
  • Case: NZXT H510 Elite ATX Mid Tower
  • SSD (M.2): Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250GB M.2-2280 NVME SSD

Thank you all for all your help, tips and ideas in advance. 😃✌️

Is Intel a must...?

Have you considered AMD at all...? They're much better value, if nothing else.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

would advise waiting as new hardware is just around the corner. building a high end pc at this point in time is not something i would recommend.

Price to performance, AMD is arguably no argument today, you get far more performance, cores and security over anything Intel can provide not to mention far less power consumption and heat.

If I were you I would consider AMD and get rid of the brand attitude, at the end of the day they want your money and then some.

You should pick what performs best accordingly to price.

I would look through the puget system results for the adobe creative suite, this is their lightroom one: https://www.pugetsystems.com/recommended/Recommended-Systems-for-Adobe-Lightroom-Classic-141/Hardware-Recommendations

Overall, AMD Ryzen is a better value as others have said. And currently does very will for adobe suite software as well. For raw gaming FPS, the 9700k will get you more FPS than anything AMD has to offer, but not by a huge amount, just like AMD will not make a huge difference in adobe work either (except for possibly high res video editing, I do thing a high core count CPU would smash a 9700k at that...). So it really comes down to what do you want most, and what level of "it just working" do you want to have. AMD has made HUGE strides as far as reliability and compatibility (mostly BIOS related issues here), but Intel, I would agree, is still mostly "plug it all in and it works".

I do still answer multiple questions daily on this forum about AMD issues being solved via BIOS updates. And there is understandable reasons for this, but they do still exist as issues. That said, I have told a few friends to go Ryzen, and they are happy they did. I went Intel because I enjoy overclocking, which is something AMD really can't do much, you just run into walls on Zen 2.

So, its up to you. Nothing wrong with a 9700k, for gaming its a great chip! The only thing I would change regardless, is don't get 2400 MHz RAM. Get at least 3200, or if you can find 3600 for a similar price get that. And get that faster RAM regardless if you go Intel or AMD :)

Mainly I want to play games and streaming. With Adobe I want only do light photo and video editing so nothing big.

A 9700k is a good gaming chip, especially if you can overclock it some. But an AMD 3600 or better is also a fine option.

Yup, that RAM looks good!

And within the next couple months we should see a lot more info about Zen 3 and RTX 3000.
