Potential PlayStation 5 pricing rumours

AndreiArgeanu

Rumours of the pricing of the PS5 and the accessories have been posted on twitter by @IronManPS5 who is notorious among the PS5 fan community for offering up numerous leaks and rumours about the Sony hardware. Additionally, former Xbox executive also mentions that the price won't be higher than 500$

The pricing does seem to be quite low, especially for the digital edition. Of course this information must be taken with a grain of salt since I wouldn't be surprised if the price for the console would shoot up another 100$ or so. The headset also seems to be possibly too expensive in my opinion, however it could offer exclusive technologies and features since in the Road to PS5 video they spent a significant amount of time on audio and how it would be significantly improved on the PlayStation 5. Though all the other prices do seem to be in line,

4k blu ray drives cost $20 to manufacture at scale, but usually people pay around $80-120 for one to connect to their TV, so there's no way it's a $150 difference

I hope we can charge the controllers via USB, because that's god damn expensive and will probably need it's own cord anyway.

£30 for the new Spider Man game? Yeah, no.

As for the rest, it's probably not that far off.

Its they really do launch at that price I might pre order one then sit on it for 12 months. We all know how much V1 Firmware units sell for once a few updates are released.

It will be in expected console range.

Not sure why some look it as some immense big deal about it if it's $100 delta difference or something in the end. They're so cheap really, people buy 60,100$+ dollar games, pay for those online subscriptions and DLCs as wll as MTX too. Few hundred dollars for a console to last number of years is nothing.

I think the dual sense controllers use USB C so that is probably the case. However I have a feeling the cable included in the box will be a USB C to USB C one since the ps5 has a USB C in the front that won't get a lot of use initially.

Much better? No. Yes the xbox series X does have better specs but not significantly better to a point where it will make a difference. Though we'll have to see.

I wouldn't say "much better."  It has a somewhat faster GPU, but the PS5's storage is considerably faster.  And besides, most games will be aimed at both platforms -- you'll only see what a console can do if a game is designed as an exclusive.

You aren't judging the consoles' performance based on the computing power, right...? That's something that clueless tech "journalists" do, not something anyone with any knowledge at all should do. Or do you seriously think that the Vega 64 with its 12.66 Tflops of single precision computing power performs better than the 2080 Super, which has 11.1 Tflops?

:)

If you don't compare between different GPU architectures and stay within one, the difference in Tflops will usually also result in that difference of performance.
It's not a perfect metric, but your 9 Tflops RDNA2 Gpu won't outperform a 12Tflops RDNA2 Gpu in any metric bar power consumption.

To a certain degree, yes. But using it to compare against the 5700 XT and 2080 Super is not accurate.

This argument has already happened on wan show. the $150 difference is possible due to sony wanting people to download stuff digitally. it doesnt matter what the actual price of the disc thingy is because discouraging physical disc sales means more net no. of licenses sold due to less reselling of the physical copy.

I could still see there being at least a $100 difference in digital vs disc versions since digital means you can't buy the games used from Gamestop, you can't borrow them from your friend, you can't rent them, and so on, and you have to buy only from PSN. Plus PSN prices are almost never lower than a sale price you can find at Best Buy / Walmart / Amazon / Target / Newegg / Gamestop unless the game is already pretty old. And they know you'll probably buy some of your old PS4 disc games again digitally to play them on your digital only PS5 if they make them $5.99 or $7.99 on PSN.

It depends. Since for example the Xbox One S digital edition didn't see a large audience at all, even when bundled with games in contrast with how well other Xbox One variants have sold. Not to mention that lots of PlayStation 4 owners have physical libraries that they may want to play on the PS5 and there's no way Sony is going to offer free conversions of anyone's physical library. The PlayStation store isn't exactly that great, not to mention Sony's spotty past when it comes to security

I think the PS5 is going to be 699 for the Blu-ray editon and 649 for all digital and the Xbox Series X (man I hate their naming scheme) is going to be 799, imo.

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

If anything checked by current trends with all consoles having vastly greater digital sales while still retaining the disk drive, they don’t need to charge more to encourage digital sales. Heck, with the xbox series x looking to undercut Sony, with a disk drive, Sony can’t release has to compete.

Nobody cares if the Xbox Series X is going to have better hardware than the PS5. What matters is the exclusives, and so far Xbox Series X has an underwhelming offering, with all or most of its exclusives being available on PC anyway.
