CYBERPOWERPC Pricing??

I'm helping a friend spec out a new computer for her and her fiance. This isn't a discussion on pre-built vs built, so just skip over that.

CYBERPOWERPC has a lot of customization available. Every part is available on every build. For example, you can select the pre-configured 3200G or 3900X and change the CPU to the other one. The interesting part, is that the prices are different based on which pre-configured tier you start with.

Here's a screen shot of two identically configured systems. One started with the cheapest Ryzen starting at $1065, and the other with the most expensive Ryzen, which started at $2365. The prices dropped to $926 and $1295 respectively.

Scrolling through the two computers, it's interesting to see where the price differences exist. The RAM is hilarious! The 64GB kit is a $540 option for the cheaper system, and only $480 for the top tier unit.

What gives?

This is called tiering.  Car companies have done it since the late 60’s.  It can work for a while.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

One includes a capture card, but that still isn't worth over $300 ...

how is this over 1000 dollars

Meets “half parts half labor” requirements.  Labor is lower time and less skilled though than is assumed for the “half and half” shortcut which normally applies to trades.  The builders aren’t getting paid $40/hr. There’s some seriously hefty profit in that one I think.  Should be closer to 750 for a prebuilt.  Less than $450 in parts.  Also perhaps not the best design.  I noticed with an earlier cyber power thing that they tend to push “home brand” stuff that shouldn’t be home brand like PSUs.  Cases and fans sure, maybe even coolers and ram.  An under built PSU can wreck a machine though.    Home brand might even be fine, but they really really need to disclose more.

Oops, I missed that one. The price is $1142 without it.
