Will an Artic Freezer 34 eSports duo outperform a Noctua NH-u12s?

Hi there,

I was originally going to get the u12s given Noctua's praise for quality and performance but then I noticed the 34 Duo and it's gotten some great reviews given that I've seen some comparison charts on it with a 9900k at different clock speeds and it's only 1-2 degrees hotter than the NH-D15.

I haven't found any comparisons between the 34 Duo and the u12s though so I'm here hoping someone can give me the comparison I'm looking for.

Also, which one would you recommend I go with? I'm hoping to have the cooler last me through at least another CPU upgrade eventually. I currently have a 3600 but in the future I'd hope to upgrade to something more high-end.

Thank you!

This is in germany, but should get the point across.
Noctua coolers are terrible value for money. I bought one anyway. 😛

(at the bottom you can see the rpm, 100%, 75% and 50%, both with one fan)

And noise levels:

I had the 34 Duo on my Ryzen 3600 first, kept the temps down nicely around 65c on a stress test. It's on my 9400f now which maxes out at 59c in stress test.

I can't compare it to the Noctua as I've never had one but it certainly does the job!

Thanks for this! So I guess the Arctic is outperforming the Noctua up until when it's 100% fan speed but that's not even realistic in my case given that I'll mostly be gaming. However it'll be a bit louder since the fans of the Arctic are at a higher RPM.. interesting maybe Noctua isn't really a good value after all.

Noctua was never a great value.
I think it's the Scythe Mugen 5 or something similar that utterly destroys the NH-D15 for half the price.

Noctua is great if you want an allrounder - quiet, good performance, great build quality and looks. But if it just comes to performance, forget Noctua.

noctua is pretty good value when it comes to highest end air coolers like NH D 14 or 15. they out perform most 240mm aios.

I'm going to order one soon. Which one would you ultimately recommend? The price isn't really an issue for me for either, only $20 difference. I would want it to be sufficient for another cpu upgrade to something more high end that would produce more heat for instance.

I recommend you get the Scythe Mugen 5. It doest basically as well as the Noctua NH-D15, if not better and costs about half as much.
There is also a black edition and a RGB edition if you're into that.

But the Freezer R33 Duo is amazing value for money and would be fine for even a 3800X I'd imagine.

I probably should've checked prices and availability on the mugen 5 first before I asked. In the US, amazon is sold out and newegg for example is grossly (over $100..) overpriced.

What're your thoughts on the U12S vs the R34 Duo then?

Same thing, different fans.
With the Duo tho you get two fans and they're fairly quiet. I'd definetily go with the Duo.

The only reason I went with a Noctua NH-D15 is because it's black and can be mounted in two orientations on AM4.

Same with the U12S.

not trying to take over the thread but has anyone else noticed how all (or at least most) Scythe cooler are out of stock at Newegg and Amazon?.

Deepcool assassin shows for a nutty 158$ on newegg.

the Arctic freezer 34 duo price is elevated at both as well.

what is going on?

i was hoping for refresh of a Ninja 5 (i so want it in white!)

i just need the quietness for my work PC and some gaming.
