Worth upgrading a 9 old laptop?

So I have the HP elitebook 8560w eqquiped with i7 2630QM, 4 GB of ram and QUADRO 1000M graphics . It will be used as a home pc, mainly browsing the internet, data storage and maybe some games that doesn't require much performance. Is it worth and SSD+ RAM upgrade? I am thinking of 1TB SSD and 16 gigs of ram, as thast would probably cost me around $150-$200. Is it worth the money? Or should I save a little bit more and buy a new $300 laptop?

Do you need a 1TB SSD? IF you just need it for browsing a 500GB SSD and 8GB of memory would help for sure, I'd say it is worth it.

 

While you open it up it is worth removing the dust build up and re-pasting the CPU and GPU.

I could see 250GB SSD + 8GB of RAM being reasonable (and not that expensive), but your plans seems a little overkill.

100% serious: get a NAS with redundant drives. Don't trust any one drive to keep your files without backup, especially SSDs which generally fail w/o warning.

You could go external for storage, makes more sense IMO. Spending $200 on an old laptop is not worth it.
