It's not UEFI, but Winodws 10 Home works...

then use the home and upgrade it to Pro by changing the activation key.

Did that on several machines at work, that my predecessor bought with windows home instead of pro.

I have an old gaming rig that I want do a clean install of Windows 10, but the motherboard does not support booting to USB, and its DVD drive is not working.

The solution that I did is to get one of my rig's HDD, and use WinToUSB to install Windows 10 to the HDD. However, WinToUSB (free version) can only install Windows 10 Home, and I need Windows 10 Pro.

WinToUSB Website: https://www.easyuefi.com/wintousb/

Questions:

  1. Does anyone know any alternatives for WinToUSB?
  2. Is there a way to install Windows 10 outside my old gaming rig? (Ex: Pre-install Windows 10 on a Hard Drive)

you can likely pre install windows 10. or just put a spare optical drive on the outside of the case and run it that way

Good luck, Have fun, Build PC, and have a last gen console for use once a year. I should answer most of the time between 9 to 3 PST

I don't have any spare optical drives, so my only choice is to install Windows 10 outside of my rig...

How can I pre install windows 10?

Change the Windows Key later to a Pro key. Works like a charm.

Or install in another rig, don't install any drivers, move hdd over.

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

System 2 "Igluna" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

System 3 "Inskah" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

On the Road: Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-51G-54FD, Intel Core i5 7200U, 8 GB DDR4 Ram, 120 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD, Intel CPU GFX and Nvidia MX 150, Full HD IPS display

(Abit Fatal1ty FP9 IN SLI, C2Duo E8400, 6 GB Ram DDR2 800, far too less diskspace, Gainward Phantom 560 GTX broken need fixing)

Nostalgia: Amiga 1200, Tower Build, CPU/FPU/MMU 68EC020, 68030, 68882 @50 Mhz, 10 MByte ram (2 MB Chip, 8 MB Fast), Fast SCSI II, 2 CDRoms, 2 1 GB SCSI II IBM Harddrives, 512 MB Quantum Lightning HDD, self soldered Sync changer to attach VGA displays, WLAN

issue with that is it sounds like its such an old system it isn't going to like UEFI which means windows will set it wrong on modern systems.

So I should install Windows 10 on another PC, then don't let it boot on the HDD?

put in the hdd to install and remove/unplug every other hdd/ssd before installing. So that you do a fresh install with only that one drive connected.
