Whats happening?

Jack412

I updated my windows to the latest version and it seems as if my microphone quality downgraded, I know my motherboard (Tomahawk b350) uses Realtek HD Audio driver, and I updated to the newest version and I still hasent been solved, so I had to revert back the update and sure enough it was downgraded in mic quality.

Mic: Audio Technica XLR

Note: I have a cheap XLR cable box, I don't know if that plays a factor for the new windows update

Updated Windows.mov          Old Version Windows.mov

I'm not hearing a major difference outside of the gain difference.
Both sound not great and I'd highly suggest you get an audio interface, everyone with an XLR mic should be using one.

I have a Huhu phantom power atm, do you think if I invest in something like a Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen, my audio issues could be resolved?

It's definitely possible and the mic will certainly sound better but I can't promise anything.
If you were to purchase in interface solely for using that mic I'd suggest you get the Behringer UM2, much cheaper and it does a similar job. If you want something with good quality outputs as well as inputs the UMC202HD is probably as cheap as I'd recommend but it's still relatively inexpensive compared to the Scarlett stuff.

I should of probably told you what I use it for, just basically using it for communication when playing games. So do you think Behringer UM2 would do the job?

It certainly will and at $35 it's not too expensive either,

Amazon has crazy high prices because of human malware at the moment (and really it rarely has good prices for specialised gear anyway, use an audio shop), I usually buy from Thomann and always quote my prices from there because they're the best but Sweetwater and BHphoto often carry interfaces like this. Driver stuff should just happen automatically and if it doesn't the website has a .zip you can download with all the stuff for each interface.

Great just placed my back order at SSweetwater! Thank you for the suggestion, hopefully this can solve my issue, if not, still I needed an upgrade from the Huhu Phantom
