Exceeding VRAM in game setting

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

i tried gta v on a 1gb gpu, hd6850

in settings everything low and 1080p only tells me the Vram is maxed.even only 50% gpu load

but when i tune them up to high, saying require 2gb, only avg fps drops.

is lower avg fps only drawback of lacking vram?

lower the res to 900P or 720P

You can try running the game at 720p

tried, it can reach 80fps min ,avg 160fps, which is a cpu bottleneck

It just means you are running out VRAM before hitting a GPU core bottleneck. Its not going to hurt anything, you just will lose performance because it’s starting to have to use system memory.

It’s bad and you shouldn’t do it. Unfortunately not much you can do with it being a 1gb card now

so exceeding vram isnt that bad?

Nope its not all that bad, just expect lower performance because of the GPU having to use slower system RAM. I used to have a pair of GTX 660’s in SLI that I used in GTA V and I always had them above the VRAM limit, not by a lot but it was enough for 60 fps most of the time.
