Budget School/Gaming Laptop

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

My sister needs a new laptop for school, preferably a cheap one for under $500. It will mostly be used for things like word processing and browsing the internet but she also wants to at least be able to play Minecraft on it so we were hoping for 6 or 8GB RAM. Any suggestions? My biggest hurdle is not knowing how good of a CPU she would need or if it’s even possible to get a laptop that can run Minecraft for under $500. As long as it can get 30-60fps consistently.

Something with a Ryzen 5 3500U will smash Minecraft, Or you can try and get the new 4000 series ryzen chips in a laptop which would be even better, but a 3500U would easily get triple digits in fps, especially with tweaking and maybe optifine for minecraft

CPU: i5-4690k @ 4.4 GHz | RAM: 12GB DDR3 1333MHz | GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 580 4GB

Look into the Lenovo Legion Y540 Laptop or even the Acer Nitro 5. They're budget gaming laptops and will (obviously) be able to run minecraft at probably 120+ FPS. The 1050 with the i5 or i7 should fare well, and can run even higher end games at good frame rates too.
