16GB RAM -> 32GB?

Recommended Posts

I am looking to upgrade from 16GB of ddr4 2133 mhz to some form of 32GB arrangement.

2133 mhz is pretty much as slow as ddr4 gets as I bought the cheapest 16gb stick 5 years ago (1 × 16GB BTW)

Is it worth it with my i7 6700 (non K) to just upgrade to 32GB of 2133 or should I spend the extra cash and sell my 16GB dimm and but some 3600mhz/4000mhz dimms?

CPU: i7 6700

GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

RAM: 16GB DDR4 2133 MHZ

Storage: 2TB Crucial SATA SSD + 2TB WD BLUE

Just get another 2133 and try to OC them both in the BIOS.  Only buy 3200+ and go thru the hassle if you're upgrading the rest of it soon.

For now, the 6700 won't notice much difference.

Single channel to dual channel will give you a small bump anyway.

Ty for the tip!

Not seeing myself upgrading my CPU for another few years as it is still overpowered for my light gaming and vr.

I am upgrading to 32GB for cities skylines as I have lots of mods and regularly use all 16GB

Depends what you're doing, but if you're only gaming you don't need more than 16GB.
