Is it worth upgrading.....

Is it worth upgrading..... i have a basic set up (i7 3770 3.4ghz, 16GB ram with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650). I play a lot of games. I want to upgrade my monitor to a minimum 144hz as currently on a 60hz. Would my current graphic card be able to handle a higher refresh rate, or would  i need to upgrade that, along with the monitor. If so what would i need to upgrade to, without breaking the bank. 

 

Any help on this would be great, as upgrading PC's is not really in my wheel house.

If I was in your shoes id get a whole new rig im not sure how good that GPU is maybe someone else can say that

I think it would bet better to get on the current gen systems. especially for 144hz

Depends on the games you will be playing and the settings. With your gpu reaching 144fps on most new games would be difficult even at lower graphic setting. So i advised you upgrade the gpu if you want to fully utilised the monitor.

i play Call of duty, GTA V and other like that. I play with the setting on medium at the moment and currently getting 60fps

If you play newer games, no.

You would probably want to go up to at least a 2060

Pretty much the answer is a no then 144hz is not going to happen. Getting a better gpu will help but if this is the new cod not even a 2080ti will help you get 144fps as your cpu is just not good enough anymore for that.

so i would need to upgrade the CPU as well as the GPU and monitor?

Ryzen 3700x + RX 5700 is a safe bet considering next Gen plastation and xbox will have nearly same CPU & GPU combo.

OK so my next question would be. Is it worth upgrading the set up i have or start fresh and build from scratch over time

If you have a SSD from the old PC with windows 10 sure you can keep that if it's full license and not a OEM one, other than that new RAM is needed since DDR3 is not same as DDR4 and well case probably is OK unless it's overheating?

TBH i don't know if its full license or OEM, I am not very technical when it comes to PCs. I know I have DDR3 ram at the moment, so i know that i would need to upgrade the motherboard. As for the case, thats fince. Its not overheating at all.

Well gotta move the SSD to the new machine and see what happens, I hope it's a UEFI install because then it will work fine... Might want to refresh Windows so all older drivers and stuff goes away... Other than that nothing I can think of that can cause disaster.

Thanks for everyone's help. Think I will need to have a good look around and think about what i want/need. As the set up i have the now is working OK the now.
