Grinding sound when inserting ram

Is it normal for ram to be pretty hard to insert and even have a scratching or grinding sound?

No it's not

Your probably installing the wrong way

It's off centered so it can only go in one way

Make sure it's installed correctly

No. All you should hear is a click.

Either you have some dust/sand stuck in your ram slots or your inserting the wrong ram ( like ddr3->ddr4) into the wrong slots.

I've some damn tight slots that takes a bit of force to get my sticks into, also had some loose ones that were to sloppy.

If it clicks in properly and works then you;re all good.
