Keeping my rx580 but upgrading but can it compute?

x9x9x9x9x9

I have a somewhat weird question. I want my gaming pc to serve double duty as a 3d modeling machine. I bought an rx580 when I first started this build but I have now realized I want to upgrade to something better. Even as simple as a 2060 super. On the back of the rx580 card I have there is a switch to select between gaming and "compute" modes. I have no idea what this switch does. If it some how aides in my 3d modeling I would love to keep the card in the PC but still have a good graphics card for gaming. I should mention I am doing gaming at 1080 as I am blind as a bat but maybe in the future I want to go to 1440. The only thing that matters to me is refresh rate as a Melee netplay warrior I can't be having any frame lag. X-D.
Specs: x570 msi gaming plus, r7 3700x, 16gb 3600 TridentZ (soon to be 32gb), and the rx580.
Thanks for any help

What RX580 do you have? The 'compute' mode probably just reduces the clockspeed and fan speed.

If you're curious about the random assortment of parts I will post a build log/story of how a simple upgrade to my prebuilt spiraled into this.
